Hellish Screams, Foul

No matter how bad we sometimes want to save the ones we love, in the end, we are forced to only watch from the sidelines as they fight their own battles. Depression is an evil that many face, and although we can offer those fighting against it, our compassion, our time, our strength, the healing has to come from within themselves. Make no mistake about it, it is a long and dark pathway in which they travel.

Hellish Screams, Foul

It's as though you know them
by name; Conversing; Excusing;
even complimenting them on their
invasion of your mind

Shadows chomp on the last of light,
you pull the covers over your head-
Time melts from inside to out-
and you don't reach for a single thread

Not one thread of normalcy; Nowhere;
each depth an unlimited zone-
Ravens cry; While the rose's thorns-
scratch slowly across your bones

Turning; Churning; Burning agony,
a braided soul, unravels-
Moaning; Groaning; Slobbering silence-
evil slams the gavel

Thunder crashes; Lightning flashes;
Rolls; Tumbles; and cries-
Angels weep; While you sleep-
darkness engulfs the skies

Awakening demons from lifetimes ago,
a merry-go-round of fears-
Transcending horizons; No peace for you-
shrillness fills your ears

Tiny drops seep from your side,
where the talons of depression gripped-
Ravens hushed; The angels whispered;
flesh torn, where ugliness ripped

Pathways long; I cried for you,
I begged; I prayed for an open door-
Come back; Fight back; Step through the night-
join life as it was before

Lisa,

Vivid portrayal of what depression really is, not only to those suffering, but to their friends and families. A strongly penned, emotional dynamo of a write--this will linger for some time. BRAVA, Poet and friend!

this is a deep and tormented song one that must have been very painful for you to write and compose but as always the passion that drives you shines through in every line, filtering the madness with a thread of hope.

It is a long and difficult road to enlightenment, Lisa and enlightened those must become who suffer from depression. Medications only mask the disease. Those who suffer must make it their life's work to move themselves back into the light and slay those dragons that continue to breathe fire on each of their dreams. Painfully emotional, this poem speaks volumes and calls upon those who live in darkness to understand that the only way to move into the light is to do it themselves.
Take care,
Sherry

OH Lisa it is so hard to let go of the demons that plague us from the past. I mean we never ever forget what has happened to us, but there are those of us that just for some reason or other, just cannot let go. I do not know why, and I certainly would like to leave the past behind me. But there are evils coming from every direction plaguing me for what my mother did to me when I was 12 years old, and forced to endure until I was 18. What childhood I had was while I was in Calumet, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. I cry at night while asking through my tears "why Mother, why?" I will never get and answer now because she is gone from us, but when I ask this question all I hear are the ghostly whispers in the wind. I get mildly depressed because those formative and very important years for a girl were forcibly ripped from me. If it wasn't for the girls in each institution and the superintendent of Winnebago to be there for me, I don't think I would have survived Winnebag because suicide was always on my mind. But the reason I didn't follow through was because the girls accepted me as one of them and Dr. Treffert did too. They were there for me. but it doesn't help me in the night when I cry and ask that question over and over again. Thnx for sharing sis. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy tot he world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little terrified sister, Barbie

Used too think depression was a lot of bunk. I know now that I was wrong (gasp!) and that there is no set "cure" for this horrible disease, it is as you said, ann internal battle, plus a truly medical one. It sucks . . . in the worst way.

Lisa, a fantastic poem that aptly describes it. I agree there is little we can do but be there to support and love when needed.
Hugs, Trish
