Shadow of the Past
It was gone; Just as though
it had never been there-
And it saddened me; What should
have been an awe-inspiring event, was
lost to my eye; This tragic death was almost; Just almost more than I
could bear
How could I have been so oblivious to
these changes that were taking place?
I literally gasped; I know I did for I heard
myself when I done it; I felt the heaviness
within my heart; My chest began laboring;
then it started to race
Life for me had never seemed to move
about so quickly; Actually, I had always
felt as though it was a bit bland-
Uneventful- even boring-
some might say-
Not today; No, for this day has left
me speechless; I'll remember always,
the abuse I suffered, when
I noticed Winter had stripped away
the beauty of Fall-
Gone was the fiery red maple leaves; the
delicious golden flowing dress of
the oaks- The bright orange
that only God could have created;
And I stood there weeping over the
death of them all-
I now stand in the shadow of another
Season's past-
