Flight of an Angel

I said, “Go with God,” as I continued to hold your frail hand,
and you peacefully drifted away to a much better land-
Frozen in time, my world had stopped-
Swearing I’d seen a smile, as I quietly sobbed.
Freely my tears flowed, but I knew you were at rest-
I would miss you terribly, but for you, this was best-
The suffering and agony, was now forever gone-
You’ll sit beside God, praising him in song.
All those nights, that proved endlessly long-
I wanted to hold on, but I knew it was wrong-
As our eyes met for the very last time-
Everything came together in a harmonious rhyme-
You were saying goodbye; This I know-
I remember seeing the tear; You tried hard not to show.
Brave you were, so that I wouldn’t hurt-
But the pain I’ve witnessed; I just can’t shirk-
One night while you were sleeping; I slipped away to pray-
Knelt at my bedside, and aloud I did say-
“Dear God, take his hand; Lead him carefully home,
Do what you will for with you, I’ll not be alone-
Please help him understand, that alright I’ll be-
Not sure at the moment, if the prayer was for him; Or me-
I knew what I needed, was for him to be at peace-
and I knew that in Heaven, the pain would be gone, at least.
So for the final time, I stood from my chair-
Let go of his hand, and ran my fingers through his hair-
Slowly I leaned, and kissed him goodbye-
and whispered, “Thank You Dear Lord, for letting my
Sweet Angel fly.”

Moving testimony to the spirit of compassion in trying times. Our comfort, hard as it can be for us in our humanness, rests in the promises of God.

Heartbreaking and yet so softly beautiful, Lisa. I am trying to squeeze away the tears so I can see what I am writing, but they just continue to flow. There comes a time....and when it arrives, we must say our goodbyes no matter how difficult it is to do so. It would be selfish for us to wish for them to remain when there is something better for them in leaving. Excellent rendering of your heart and soul, Lisa.
Take care,
Sherry
