Between the Silences

Thin pages; Crinkling-
Breaths of wonderment and angst-
Sitting in between the silences-
of nausea and pain

Another name called aloud-
Liquid fire enhanced-
She lies there just remembering-
all the times she danced

Sometimes her eyes they open-
but what does she really see?
Is it angels she’s looking for?
I guess that’ll be a mystery

I believe she hears the music;
as the trumpets sound on high-
For her lips they smile at times-
then, she moans a peaceful sigh

Her hands embrace contentment;
her breaths they ease along-
She’s fought this battle bravely-
her will continues strong

So I’ve prayed between the silences-
for God to arrest her pain-
and I’ve cried because she won’t-
my tears they’ve flowed like rain

This path we follow is narrow;
its edges a bit unstable-
but everyday is a different journey-
and proof we are able

So somewhere between the silence,
crinkled papers, nausea and pain-
Our hands  embraced contentment-
as tears pour down like rain

Lisa:

I'm enjoying reading your poetry this morning. Between the Silences is one of those beautiful written gems that stops your heart. It captures the toll of sickness on everyone, especially the patient. For all the hope of relief, for those who watch, how many times does one take that back after the final breath is taken.

You poem is a huge sigh.

love,
Kathy

Lisa,

I'm happy to be blessed by this poem this morning. As sad as it is it touches the depths of the soul and gives it purpose. Beautiful offering.

deeply emotive and philosophical poem, Lisa ... sadness interjects but hope prevails throughout this eloquent pen ... i'm glad this poem didn't turn out to be the silence of a crinkled paper ...

Lisa this is sad but so well expressed it holds a depth of spiritual healing if only others could grasp.

As sad as the situation is, you show how loving relationships no matter who they are with, can be so deep and caring when one will do the praying, crying and caring that the other can't. Superb poem Lisa! ET

Lisa this is truly a stirring heart felt write about someone who you dearly care about. It is hard to see someone we love suffer and pain and be totally helpless to do anything to end their suffering. As you know my dear sil is still surviving as a terminal patient in an ICU where she has been since last fall and yes there are plenty of times I wish the Lord would call her home. This write captures the pain that we all must feel from time to time. Thank you for sharing.

What a sad, but touching write my friend, you've got drying tears. Your heart seems to be in sink with the one who is suffering what a wonderful relationship to be able to write this with so much love, and emotion...enjoyed this divine write!

This just broke my heart and sent tears streaming down my cheeks, Lisa, yet your words are dyed with the grace of hope and the will to survive. For those of us not facing death, we so easily believe that we will gently move into the light, but the body seems to know when it is time to fight and when the time has come when our next place in the universe has been readied for us. Gorgeous poem, Lisa, and though sad, it brings the spirits of all who read it together to offer our united strength to her as she moves forward on her journey into the light.
Take care,
Sherry

This poem is so beautiful. It's so wonderful to love someone enough to try to take their pain away and to cry when they can't. Sometimes anguish is simply to much for one person to bare. Wonderful write!

This is sad, and reminds me of a time that I felt this from within...the pain and anguish one feels and sees as another is laying and waiting to pass on...
