If you were alive and I had all my senses
I'd write you a poem and mend broken fences
I'd sing you a song and warble real good
I'd do all of the things I know that I should.
But you left me so soon and I never had time
To bring you flowers or write you a rhyme
My memories though few I hold close to my chest
Yet in my solitude I know I am bles't.
I can feel your presence catch a glimpse of your smile
I'm sure you were there on the Emerald Isle
And when I hear laughter that comes from the heart
Your voice stands out and we're not far apart.
But my soul still grows weary as my days dwindle down
When I think of the good times that we never found
Quiet moments alone--a touch a sigh or a scowl
I'd pay a king's ransom for just one of them now.
Etched deep in my heart it was all meant to be
A time gap imposed between you and me
Somehow I survived and today I am stronger
A new day awaits it can't be much longer.
When I cross over that line with no beginning or end
The angels must wait I've a deed to attend
I won't need a map or Gabriel's charms
To find that Heavenly pathway straight to your arms.
What can I say. The wow factor rings in your lovely poem Edward. In the gates of yonder, you will be reunited with your Mummy. At God's right time.

Exquisite lines of ripping and mending emotion. I love poems that send a shock-wave of feeling human truth and consequences such that skin prickles, blood rushes to face and hair stands on end. I'm so glad you got to write this ode to your mother. I can't imagine imagine what it must be like without a mother like mine who treated me so well and let me be independent at a very young age. I know, too that you were independent from a very young age without your mother. I know she has always been with you in spirit and your poem proves that it's more important to you than ever to be close to her, if only in thought. Happy Mother's Day to your mother.
Many of us have return about this unique relationship which starts before even the birth of the child, unknown to both the mother and child the Umbulical chord is the connection then. But your work I must say has beat us all and it stands out as unique as you and the wonderful blessed lady who has been your mother. How fortunate she was to have a son like you.
