The Patient

I just returned from the cardiologist’s office.
He’s a nice guy. His nurse is nicer
They both like my legs. Why?
Who knows? Not me.
I have an anomaly in one of my arteries.
Do I care? Not really.
It’s fun to let them worry about me.
It frees up my mind to better appreciate
Her firm and lovely curves.
No, I am not a dirty old man.
It’s too hard to be both
I have the temerity to tell her of my
Wandering eye.
And she has the good sense to smile and blush.
They want me to participate in a placebo controlled
Double blind study.
I decline.
They insist. So do I.
I don’t tell them I am my own placebo.
Why let a young researcher trick me?
Science will go on without me.
Hell it went on with me.
And nobody listened.
We know little.
We leave behind less.
Wisdom is for the ages to sort out.
Don’t make it more complicated.
You may bruise your ego.
I now have three more appointments
Is that good? Is it progress?
Probably not.
I will be older.
No wiser, not healthier.
But I will have left my mark
