Regrets

We live the moments but count the years
Delight in laughter song and cheers
Avoid the sadness full of tears
And let the old year go.

Bring in the new it’s ours to hold
Forestall the thought of growing old
Never timid always bold
And let the new winds blow.

Funny how time deceives us
Funny she never leaves us
Funny how she relieves us
Of youth and sun and snow.

There was a time not long ago
When I had dreams an afterglow
Of times that might have been.

You were there in all your glory
You were part of my new story
Now it’s just an allegory
Why did I let you go?

Regrets that mount and weigh me down
They take my soul leave me to drown
Lost in fields of sparse renown
Yet how they linger so.

Another year has come my way
So many moments but none to stay
There’s little more for me to say
But not I told you so.

"Regrets, I've had a few, but there again too few to mention...
But..."I did it My Way"...
A very thought provoking piece...
My favourite line...
"Lost in fields of sparse renown.."
So wonderfully graphic...

The theme you share through your verses here is sadly a timeless and universal one of the world/life, Edward. I am sure that many can relate. Love and peace,

You tell the truth about the sadness of the passing of time. Set the mood for me.

Correcting a couple of typos would make it even better.

Ed, Sounds like you may have been on your 'little white throne' already today. It's a pretty daily thing with me.

I don't believe it is possible to live without regrets. Everyone makes sad mistakes during there lifetime.

Repetition, rhythms and rhymes all work well here to set the tone. As for the regrets, ah yes, they have a way of sticking around. Fine write, Edward. John
