The Universe and Me
I am in the universe
The universe is in me
We are inseparable
As long as I do not forget
I need the universe
While it does not need me—
Or does it?
What would it be without me?
One less speck of sand to keep track of
Where Googol piles now exist
One less mind to wonder
Where reason has a short list
One less heart to seek love
Where love has lost its way
One less soul to care about
With no permit to stay.
Perhaps we have a connection
This universe and me
One that grows stronger as space expands
And more of us are free
Where love needs our attention
Among the wild debris
Where moonbeams know of our intentions
Before we can agree.
We kill with no regard
To either cause or its effect
On today tomorrow or ever
With no vision or circumspect
We ravage with abandon
We plunder where we should build
While ignoring its greater power
Against which we have no shield.
Can it be written in the stars
What ultimately must be
When all of us together
Might find our destiny?
Or is it for us to decide
What the final verse will say
Should we decide together
That we are here to stay?

Thoroughly enjoyed and admired.

and write that final verse.
As the universe expands,
can we keep from making it worse.
Love ya!
Jane
Where love needs our attention
Among the wild debris
Where moonbeams know of our intentions
Before we can agree.*
And then an outside chance of contemplating the cosmic.
