What Price Freedom?
To all who would seek to know
About the price of freedom
You are speaking to the wrong person
I am a veteran of war
But I am alive
I have a daughter
Who lives and loves life
We cherish our friends and neighbors
But we can all sing laugh dance and
Find our own way.
We have the privilege of paying taxes
For the common good
Of attending schools and churches
If we choose
To teach to learn and to
Draw from the wisdom of each other
If we may.
But we are not the true heroes in this life
That honor is reserved for the few
Who dare to risk something
Above and beyond the call—
They do what others only talk about
They confront beyond their safety
They walk where angels fear to tread
They pay without a care
For the cost.
Whether separated by a wall
Or by a river
By a jail sentence
Or by the gates of hell...
They alone know about the true price of freedom--
It’s in the sacrifice.
Love ya!
Jane
