The Birth of Democracy

On this date in history
An idea was born
Conceived in liberty and dedicated to
the proposition that all men are created
Equal.
Wars arise from different causes
Most bad some without reason or form.
Today we must endure one that is
testing our values to their core.
With the sound of 10 million patriots
in the distance calling upon us and
our better angels to stop this
menace.
Where is the honor
Where is the glory
Where is the sanity
that drives one ignorant being
to such lengths
that he commands millions of
others to do his bidding?

An insurrection at the core of freedom
and we look on as if we have yet
to hear it to see it
to listen and to act.
Are we the sunshine patriots
about which our forebears spoke?
Have we lost our bearing
Our sense of purpose
Our collective will to face
tryanny and take it down?

I know not what course others
may take
but as for me
Give me liberty or
Give me death.

Words that now ring hollow
Desecrated on the sands
of time
Ignored by those who have
never tasted the sting of battle
Who have never seen the
blood of honor spilled
In the cause of freedom

Nor heard the call to duty.

He taunts he mocks
He carries neither cause
Nor courage
Form nor substance
While he unravels
our most sacred possession that
Identifies who we are
Why we exist
and to what ends we will
Fight to keep it forever
at the forefront of democracy...

Our right to vote.

Do not send to know
for whom the bell tolls
the poet wrote
It tolls for you
It tolls for me
But only when it
tolls for freedom.
