A poem about Thanksgiving Day

Poem Artwork

Rocco’s Thanksgiving Day Treat

Resting in bed,

With my eyes gently closed

As the sun gleamed down on me

Suddenly, I smelled something

Something different,

Something delicious,

A smell that made my belly rumble with delight

This delightful smell came from the other room

Just around the corner from mine,

I heard little feet making its way to my room

I popped my eyes open,

Sat upright,

Rocco zoomed into my room

And made a big boom

As he jumped onto my chair and then onto my bed

“What’s a matter boy?”

“What’s all the excitement?”

“WOOF”

“WOOF”

“Wait a minute I know that smell!”

“That’s a turkey roasting in the oven”

“Oh my gosh, today is Thanksgiving Day!”

I jumped out of bed with Rocco

And we raced to the kitchen door

I quickly looked down at the floor

As my body filled with glee

Oh my gosh Rocco,

Can it be…?

“Is today really Thanksgiving Day?”

I flung open the door

I couldn’t take it no more

I could feel the excitement pour out of me

As I dashed to the oven door

And there

I saw a huge turkey with stuffing

And lots of potato’s roasting in the oven

I looked around the kitchen

And I saw every food you could imagine

Including Apple pie and lots of pudding

I looked at mom

She looked very calm

As she let out a smile

And gave me a wink

“Is today really Thanksgiving Day?”

“You bet it is…!”

“WOOF”

“WOOF”

Mom let out a chuckle as she said, “I think Rocco is as excited as you!”

“WOOF”

“WOOF”

Hours later…

The turkey was finally done

And the food was served

Everyone was ready

For the big Bird

We all got up to go to the dining room table

To indulge,

In the big feast

I looked around

“Where’s Rocco?”

I want to give him his Thanksgiving Day Treat

All of a sudden

I heard mom yell

                                                    “ROCCO!”

Mom didn’t sound happy

She sounded a little mad

Was Rocco being bad?

I dashed to the dining room door

And there was Rocco

Standing on the table

Eating his own Thanksgiving Day Treat

He had taken a bite out of the bird!

Uh-oh…

Somebody is going to be punished

I laughed to myself as I thought…

I bet I know what Rocco said for Grace

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this food

And please don’t let me get caught eating this turkey too.

Well, I know one thing for sure

That wish didn’t come true

Next time a lesson to be learned is that Rocco needs to wait to gobble with the rest of the group on Thanksgiving Day!!

That was really funny… And probably very true! It reminds me of my dog, Jazz, a little black Pomeranian. He figured how to jump from my office chair to my desk to get my snacks. I had to put my chair a long way from the desk so that he could make the jump when I was gone.

My helper just made my third turkey with all the trimmings since Thanksgiving last Sunday. We have one more to go. Yum Yum.

Rocco was just being a dog, though I know that's no consolation to your mom...LOL...e
