I sit in my desk nostalgically, mind wandering. The teacher is checking her emails. I count the seconds until the day ends. The hands on the clock move so slow... one. two. three. I wish I could lift up the glass off of the clock and fast forward time. I glance around the room. Alisha is attentivly doing her homework. Mine's been done. I just don't like to be pandantic about it. The teacher starts talking. "Okay class, does anybody know what a superlative is?" Alisha takes a crack at it and her answer is wrong. I already know what it is, but I just sit there at stare blankly at the teacher. Chris shouts "IM GUESSING IT MEANS SUPER," abnoixiously. I roll my eyes, and he snickers. Mrs. Lee asks me if I know the answer, but I shrug and focus my attention towards the clock again... four. five. six. I sigh and slump my head on my hand. I couldn't concentrate if I wanted to. Chris wouldn't shut up. Mrs. Lee hands out worksheets, and I start to work quietly. When I'm done I put it face down and lay my head on my desk. Brad and Chris flip my paper over. "Duuudee, how did you get it done??" I replied I wasn't talking. They figured I was lying and the teacher just didn't know what she was talking about, and she was going to fail them because she 'hated' them. Puuhlease. Ten more minutes until class is over. Mostly everybodys done and theyre either talking or secretly texting. I pull out my book and start reading. Kyle interrupts me 2 minutes after I start reading and says "Why are you reading??". I simply reply that its a book for reading and he nods and looks away. I lied, I'm not even in a reading class. When the bell rings I disperse into the hallway, looking like a normal teenager on the surface, but not inside.
As adults we tend to forget that not all teenagers are the same just as teens often feel that all adults are the same. We each have our own distinct ideas, feelings and needs. Your short story is a great example that not all kids follow the herd some walk alone and follow their muse. Well done Kiki.
