spending time behind a closed door is important to our ministry, the gift God has given us. It is here we learn it is not ours in the first place and we can give it back to Him for His use and purpose and not ours.
We have all been given gifts for the building of the Kingdom of God. The receiving of the gift is wonderful but to sacrifice it is, well that is another story. One biblical example of giving our gift back to God is when Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac simply because God said. It seems the process is: (1) The Promise (2) The Birth (3) The Sacrifice (4) The Return (1) The Promise: Genesis 15:4b:" but he who shall come from your own body shall be your heir." (2) The Birth: Genesis 21:1-3 "The Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for her as He had promised. For Sarah became pregnant and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time God had told him. Abraham named the son Isaac, meaning laughter because Sarah laughed at the announcement." (3) The Sacrifice: Genesis 22:1-10: God says to Abraham,"Take your son Isaac and offer him as a burnt offering." (4) The Return: Genesis 22:13b: " And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering and as ascending sacrifice instead of his son." Abraham knew Isaac was a gift from God but yet he was ready to give him back to God knowing that God would raise him up again. Hebrews 11:17-19: "By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, 'It is through isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.' Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from the death. Abraham was obedient, and in carrying out the act of obedience to give back his gift, which was his time of testing, God spared his son and gave him back to Abraham and promised He would bless him, and He did. To this day, Abraham is called, "Our Father of Faith". When we give our gift back to God, no matter what that gift is, He makes it operable and gives it back to us, and then we are ready to pick it up and go into the world He sends us to.
