Finding one's way around a large city can be quite stressful ... even for those who live in the city.
Trying to find locations in a strange city can be quite difficult and no place is that true r than New York City. My father not having been in NYC for decades thought he would have a better chance locating the hotel we had reservations for by driving into the city on a Sunday morning. Mom was the navigator armed with a map and the hotel’s address but it still appeared we were driving around in circles, not locating the hotel. At one point, Dad was unsure whether he could make a left turn on a certain street but then he spotted a New York yellow cab turning left onto that street, so he followed the cab. Within moments a New York police car was flashing its lights and sounding the siren for us and the cab driver to pull over. We were all in total stock at what could we have done wrong. The officer slowly approached our station wagon and then stated to my father, “I see by your license tag, you are from out of town, so I can excuse your driving down the wrong way on a one-way street. But that idiot cab driver ahead of you works here and he is getting a ticket.” He then pointed us in the right direction to our hotel which it turns out was only one block away.
