When Mandy decided to do the right thing, she finds out that God has already worked it out.
An Angel’s Prayer
by
Patricia P. Sims

The light from the window of the church illuminated the interior of the car, creating a soft warm glow that was comforting to Mandy Pierce. If only she could stay here for just a little while longer—at least until her courage returned.
She had good intentions when she left home but now as she realized how close she was to carrying out her plans, apprehension began to creep in casting sinister doubts on what she had once thought was the right thing to do.
Joel Green was the perfect example of a hypocrite. For more than ten years, he had masqueraded as a devout deacon, a loving husband and father and no one had a clue. He would sometimes sing specials during the worship service all the time preying on young women outside the church to fulfill his evil, sick desires.
Tonight, all that would change during the business meeting of the Holy Rock Baptist church. Joel Green’s fellow members would finally know just know unholy their beloved deacon was.
Mandy had been reared in church all her life. She loved the Lord with all her heart but God did not seem to care that Joel Green was crooked and wicked and doing more harm to the church than good. Had God closed his eyes to the fact that this one man had fathered four children outside the bonds of matrimony with another one on the way? The latest victim was Shelia, Mandy’s friend who had no idea Joel Green was married. An older man who was the bearer of flowers, gifts, and promises of a wonderful future had swept her off her feet. Not only was he a hypocrite, but a habitual liar as well with one goal in mind. Once he had his sights fixed on his unsuspecting victim, she was under his control.
It would all end tonight. No one should be allowed to get away with such underhanded, lowdown behavior and it was up to her to stop this man before another young lady becomes caught up in his deceitful web.
Her heart also went out to the wife of this hypocrite. Does she really know her husband or was this situation a trade off in some way? Some women would rather have security rather than faithfulness but with a man like Joel Green no amount of security could atone for his sins. No, it had to end tonight. There was no other way.
She made her way up the steep steps and pushed the heavy wooden door open into the foyer. The meeting in session. Just the thought of the devastating impact this would have on both families and the church caused huge tears to trickle down her face.
She ducked into the bathroom to gain her composure. She had come this far and she had to complete her mission.
“Am I losing my courage?” She asked herself. She wondered where all her premediated determination had gone.
“God, please tell me what to do. Show me please!” She prayed.
Suddenly the bathroom door opened very quickly. The woman who walked in was visibly upset as she leaned against the wall sobbing uncontrollably.
“O well, first things, first.” Thought Mandy.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” she asked.
The pitiful sobs stopped abruptly but the agonizing anguish could be seen all over her face.
“No one can help me now! I only pray that I have done the right thing by God and by this church. O God, please let it be the right thing—let it be all right.
Mandy led her to the sofa and sat down beside her.
“It’s going to be all right. God said He would never leave nor forsake us and I believe that, don’t you?”
“Yes, I know you are right but I know things will never be the same again.
She was quiet for several seconds.
My husband is a hypocrite. He’s a deacon at this church and is a liar, adulterer, and a cheat. You name it, he’s done it. I couldn’t keep quiet about it any longer. It has been tearing me apart. He has always taken advantage of others and I couldn’t let it happen anymore. I know that some of the members will be angry with me for shaking things up, especially those who have a soft spot in their hearts for him. But God does not have a soft spot for sin. He hates sin.
She was quiet for a few more seconds
“I just couldn’t keep quiet about this anymore. I am sorry. I should not have burdened you with this… I don’t even know your name and I did not introduce myself.”
She held out her hand.
“I’m Barbara Green.”
Something like electricity rushed through Mandy’s hand as she shook hands with Mrs. Green.
“I’m Mandy. It’s nice meeting you.”
Actually for Mandy it was an answered prayer. She was in disbelief.
“Oh, it can’t be nice meeting me in such a pitiful state. I’m a wreck right now but I am so thankful that you are here. You are a Godsend.
“Mrs. Green, you are a very brave woman and I am sure God has smiled on you this evening and will forever bless you for standing on His name. You deserve more that your husband has given. He should be proud to have a wife like you.” Said Mandy.
“He’s history now. I can’t stay married to him any longer. It makes me sick to look at him. I never believed in divorce and I know it is not the solution to all marital problems, but I have reconsidered and I am filing tomorrow. I just want my life back”
Mrs. Green seemed more in control of her emotions.
Please pray for me, Mandy. I feel a tremendous amount of pain for all the people my husband has used over the years. May God help them all”
“And God will.” Said Mandy.
Barbara Green looked at Mandy as if seeing her for the first time.
“You must be angel. I’ve never seen you here before.”
“You’ll probably never see me here again.” Said Mandy.
You’re an angel! God answered my prayer. O praise His Holy Name! I needed a word from Heaven and H sent you. I’ll never forget you Mandy.”
“And I will never forget you, Mrs. Green.”
