From: Newswise.com; (Research explores Chiropractic) Diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in the United States and is a growing epidemic around the world! Between the end of 2000, nearly 7% will be affected, unless something changes, things look pretty bleak! Between 1990 and 1999, diabetes increased by more than 40 percent. Roughly, one out of every three men...and two out of every five women born in the year 2000, will suffer from diabetes in their lifetime!
Now, researchers are finding evidence that chiropractic adjustments might be able to make a valuable contribution to an overall program of wellness care to help diabetes sufferers.

In August, 2006 when I started writing seriously, I promised myself, that would not be a crusader for anything! If a person wants to commit suicide...one puff at a time...go for it! If a person wants to commit sucide one pound at a time...don't let me stop you! If a person wants to commit suicide...one snort at a time...be my guest! If a person wants to commit suicide...one heart-attack at a time, don't let me get in the way, etc. If a person wants to pop-pills all the way to the grave...go ahead...it's your right! In other words...I'm not anybody's baby-sitter.
As for this article, I'm not a chiropractor; nor am I a member of a chiropractic organization...I am simply a patient of chiropractic for nearly 40 years and the reader many learn at thing to two during this presentation.
"It is worse still to be ignorant of your ingnorance." Saint Jerome
As the reader might have guessed, this aricle is about diabetes; chiropractic; and the most contagious disease of them all...ignorance! Because I get a physical exam and blood test every year, I have noticed that I have had to deal with elevated glucose (blood sugar) and when it touched the line of diabetes in the spring of 2009, I was not surprised, etc.
In 1970, I quit smoking and it took me about a year, and I have never smoked since that time. In 2001, I lost 40 pounds, and since that time, I have never gained it back. And, since I've touched the line of diabetes in 2009, I now have a battle with diabetes which I plan to win, too!
"It is better do confess to ignorance, than to provide it." Homer Hickam
And, that's what this article is about...so many people all across the United States are ignorant about chiropractic care...if they would only stop shooting off their mouth and listen for a change, they would be better off!
I've been visiting a chiropractor since 1976 on my wellness plan and that makes for over 100 visits to see a chiropractor. The analogy I use for healthcare is all of our vehicles sitting in the driveway, etc. You and I have to change the oil; check the water; give the vehicle a tune-up; check tire pressure and replace parts when necessary.
It's the same thing in healthcare...my health has always been my top priority in my lifetime. I have to stay healthy to provide for myself and my family and I want a quality of life, too. I can't have none of this unless I'm healthy!
A fellow asked me one time, "Do people really visit a doctor when they're not injured or sick?" I answered back to this ignorant person, "I do it all the time!"
"A person is never happy except at the price of some ignorance." Anatole France
From: Taking Charge.edu ; (What is chiropractic?) Chiropractic is a complete system of health care focused on restoring, preserving, and optimizing health by natural hands-on care.
While conventional or "allopathic" medicine focuses on curing illness through surgery and pharmaceuticals; the goal of chiropractic is to optimize health with a non-evasive approach...that does not use drugs or surgery. Chiropractic primary avenue of care is manipulation of the spine and the framework of the body.
The spine is an important structure that houses and provides protection for the spinal cord, whild providing mobility for the upper body. This dual requirement of strength and flexibility makes the spine a very complex structure, with multiple joints at each spinal segment (the vertebrae) forming the spinal column.
When these joints (also known as articulations), are not positioned or functioning normally, it can affect the nerves and exciting the spine. Chiropractic care attends to irritations along the spine, by manually repositioning these joints.
The word "chiropractic" comes from the Greek words, cheir (hand) and the word praxis (action), and simply means "done by hand." Note the word chiropractic, while a bit awkward, is the actual name of the profession (not chirocacy; chiropractics or chiropractic medicine)
Chiropractic patients often visit their chiropractors periodacally in order to simply relieve irritations...to get an "adjustment." Individuals also seek chiropractic care for back pain; headaches; joint pain; carpel tunnel; tendonitis; sprains; as well as for non-musculskeletal conditions including allergies; asthma; and digestive disorders. Some chiropractors further specialize in orthopedics; sports injuries; or diagonistic imaging.
"To be conscious that you are ignorant, is a great step toward knowledge." Benjamin Disraeli
I started chiropractic in 1976, in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA/where I live) and with a population of over 300,000 at the time, there were only two chiropractors in this one-horse town!
For as long as I can remember, medical doctors and chiropractors have not gotten along. Chiropractors were some kind of quacks...and not reconized by the medical profession! All along the way, the American people have gotten tired of the same old tired medication...over-medication...more medication and over-medication from the traditional doctors! There's big money to be made by prescribing medications. Same old prescriptions and surgery...more pill-popping and more surgery...another band-aid...pills on top of more pills...and finally a knock on the door at the Betty Ford Center with a prescription drug habit (whew!)
All this makes me dizzy...
Over the last 15 years, chiropractors have gained acceptance by the medical community, and you see a chiropractor office on nearly every corner. Why? Because chiropractic works, and it makes sense. The American people are fed up with drugs that don't work and surgery. And guess what? The Senior Health Plan in which I am a member, has over 20 chiropractors listed (2009)! A chiropractor is nothing more than a specialist of the spine...just like the heart specialist or the psychologist or the dentist, etc.
From: J.U.S.R. com; (Journal of Vertebral Subuxtion) One way of expanding chiropractic acceptance and welcomed into the comententary or allied healthcare community, is if we can remail cautious with our proclamations and circumspect, with how we intertrept positive findings in research studies. In the research community, it is considered a much more powerful position to not over intepret any study results. Chiropractic will benefit greatly, if it can develop a research "humility."
Since chiropractic has only recently entered the research arena (past three decades), there has been a great tendancy to get excited about study results, and greatly extrapolulate the findings. We need to temper our exubherance, with a careful reasonable thought process. We need to ask ourselves, "Before I make this statement, how will I support it if I am challenged?"
From: Islet of Hope.com: (The History of Chiropractic)
The roots of chiropractic care can be traced back to the beginning of recorded time. Writings from China and Greece in 2700 B.C. (before cable), and in 1500 BC, mention spinal manipulation and the maneuvering of the lower extremities to ease lower back pain.
Hippocriates, the Greek physician, who lived from 460 to 357 BC., also published texts detailing the importance of spinal manipulation, and in one of his writings, he declares, "Get knowledge of the spine...for this is the requisite for many diseases."
In 1865, chiropractic was founded by Daniel David Palmer in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer was born in Pickering, Ontario (Canada), and moved to the United States in 1865. During this time, he tried to find a single cause for 100% of all diseases. He reached a point where he even claimed to have succeeded in this mission. He proclaimed,
"A subluxated vertebrea...is the cause of 95% of all diseases...and the other 5% is caused by displaced joints other than those of the veterbral column."
My Two-Cents: (opinions) Because we live in the land of the free...and we all live in a society of choices...the reader can believe this statement...OR not believe this statement...the choice is yours!
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant as you were a year ago!" Bernard Disraeli
I'm not a doctor, so I can't give any advice, but I can tell the reader what I think is important in getting better healthcare.
1) Early detection; you cannot know what is wrong with you, unless you get tested.
2) Open mind; Try to keep an open mind to alternative healing; and there can be a combination of two or three or four...whatever you think is best for you.
3) Patience: If you try chiropractic, you're going to have to be patient. If you've been a certain way for a long time...it's going to take some time to straighten you out, etc. That's why keeping a journal is so important. (35 years experience)
4) Journal; I cannot stress the importance of keeping a journal. Most of us can't remember what we did yesterday, much less a year ago. In the journal, keep your weight; how long the pain lasted; when it started; if the pain was serious or mild, etc. This way, you can go back for months and even years and see how you are improving. If it were not for a journal, I don't know what I would do, because I could see that I was improving as time went on. And this fact inspired and excited me.
5) Advocate: Be an advocate for yourself and your health...nobody's going to do it for you! We live in a society of choices! You can be an advocate for yourself and think for yourself...OR you can be a dufus all your life...the choice is YOURS!
I wrote another article, which is entitled, "The Benefits of Chiropractic," and in it, I list the things that chiropractic have helped me with or eliminated all together. Conditions such as migraine headaches; nose bleeds; sinus problems; cold sores; colds/flu; high blood pressure. The reader can see this artlcle at the following direct link;

And finally...my health has always been the most important thing in my life! You can't have a quality of life, unless you have your health. At the age of 64 (2009), I have yet another challenge in front of me! I have to bring the glucose (sugar) numbers down to a safe level...or I could pay the ultimate price like my aunt. I'll try to do it with a combination of pharmaceuticals and chiropractic.
And, as I said earlier, my aunt died from diabetes at a young age...after one of her legs was amputated and she went blind!
When was the last time you got a blood test?
