In this piece, I will highlight some of the things I have produced over the years, and inform the reader, as to why, where, and how some of these things have come about.  Taking chances (risks) has been a big part of my creative life...some things work...and others don't. 

Of course, my pride and joy, is my website, which was constructed almost ten years ago, when I knew nothing about the Internet and websites.  At that time, I built my Front Page, before I had even seen what a website looked like.  I knew they would be good, and so I had to make my website good as well.  When I went out surfing on the Internet, I wasn't disappointed...I saw many, many good websites out there. 

Before I came online and built my website, I knew I had to have a catchy website name, so people could remember it.  At the time, I had a list of 5, and I chose humordoctormd...and that name still stands in 2011.  The clip-art library at Homestead (host) was just perfect for me, because I had been captioning graphics and my wood carvings for years, so it all worked out nicely.

Are We Suffering From Terminal Seriousness?  (Joke of the Week/clean humor)
I've been in the humor business for over 50 years (oh, really?), and when I wrote this piece in May, 2011, I was hoping it would do what it's doing all along.  It has been in and out of the AD Top Ten; the AD Featured Page, and the AD Top 50 List.  What is unique about this piece, is there are 10 humor-related articles (with links), to help the reader get more humor into their life...if the reader chooses to do so, etc.  As of this date (12-13-11) this piece is #1 in the Humor category and #22 on the AD Top 50 List and listed on the Featured Page. 

You Say Tomato; I Say Tomater: 
It's one thing to be funny and act funny...and quite another thing to be able to write funny.  When I came online, I wasn't sure I could write funny.  Of the 310+ articles now in my portfolio, this is the only piece formated this way.  When I first wrote it, the piece had only about 30 entries...and over the next year, I added about 50 more.  It is truly one of the silliest pieces I've ever written.  This piece debuted in the AD Top Ten and since that time, it has been listed in the AD Featured Page for over 14 months.  Amazing! 

I started writing seriously in late 2006, and I posted my articles on an article directory (EzineArticles.com).  This was one of the best things I have ever done, because the directory has 'live' editors, and they accept or reject the work of the writer.  I encourage all beginners in writing or young people to do it this way, because you'll find out real quick if you can write or not.  You have to do your homework. 

In my 40's I completed three writing courses; the National Writers Club course; Writers Digest course; and a creative writing course at the University of New Mexico.  All of this took about 18 months to complete, but it has been worth it.  Most of us forget what we learned while in school, so this was a way to imporve my writing skills.

The Negative Side of Humor;
Although I had signed up with Authors Den at the time, I left the article directory, because I wanted to take more chances with my work, and be more creative.  All this would break the rules at the directory, and then my articles would not be accepted. 

This piece was written in early 2007, and I would consider it to be one of my most difficult pieces to write.  That's because of the voice or approach I used in this piece.  A no-nonsense...in your face approach, which I thought I would have to tone-down, etc.  But, I've always taken chances with my work after 30 years in the art world (woodcarver) and now in writing.  I left the piece alone, and see what would happen.  By the end of the first year, this piece had climbed into the top ten at the directory, and it gave me the confidence, to write other pieces in a similar manner (approach) such as; Young People Should Not Start Smoking; Dealing With the Racists and Bigots of the World; How Do You Spell Worthless; U.S. C-O-N-G-R-E-S-S!; and many others.

Here's the Skinny On How I Lost 40 Pounds;
In my five years in writing, I have never seen an article that was so dominant as this one.  This piece was #1 at three different place.  So dominant, in fact, that this piece is over 8,000 hits/views in front of second place!  Amazing!  I never thought this piece would lost the lead (hits/views)...but it did!

Making a Difference In People's Lives By Writing;
This is the piece that surprised me, and took the lead in April, 2010, and is leaving everyone in the dust, etc.  Amazing, because this piece was written more than two years after the weight piece, and stll passed it going away.  By going to this piece, the reader can see a hand-full of the places where my articles have been published.

U.S. Congress;  The Best Little Whorehouse in Washington, D.C. 
I've been in the art world (as a woodcarver) and now in writing, and taking chances is a way of life with me.  Every coach and athlete, will tell you, that they have to take a chance (or two) during the game or tournament, if they expect to win.  Everyone knows the US Congress is worthless, so there's nothing new here.  What is new and taking a chance, it the title of this piece.  In the 1080's there was a movie by the name of 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,' starring Dolly Parton and somebody else.  That's where I got the name for this piece.

Constipation:  Saying Hello to an Expensive Enema!
Talk about taking chances!  This piece just blows my mind!  This piece was written in the summer of 2009, and in its quiet way, and with over 300 articles now on hand, this piece climbed into the #2 spot in hits/views on my article list.  I am shocked at this, because of the delecate nature of the material and the title.  I nearly didn't write it, but I write to help people, and if I can help people with my words and experiences, I will do so, etc.

Amazingly, this piece took the lead in publisher views at the directory, and was published on 30 directories in its first month.  Talk about taking chances?  That was in 2007...and I still use this piece in my marketing endeavors...

Legacy: Gift of Writing;
Of the over 300 articles now on hand, this is the only article, that I wrote three times.  The first time, was over 1,000 words, in a serious manner, and it bombed!  The second piece was also in a serious manner about 1,000 words...and it bombed, too.  The third time, I cut the words to about 700 words, and changed it to a humor piece.  The piece is now doing much better!

Free Content vs. Paying Markets in Writing;
I personally believe, I've been successful in writing, because I stayed in the Free Content Market, and staying away from the Paying Markets.  Therefore, the stress has been reduced and my confidence is at an all-time high.  I don't have or need that pressure to make money in writing, etc. NO refection slips for me, which allows me to go forward and get my 15 minutes of fame, etc.
