Over the past twenty years, I have been focused on and committed to helping people find True Self and live an Authentic Life at home and at work. In my current book, Your Truth: Know It, Speak It, Live It.
A Guide for People Seeking Authenticity in Their Personal and Professional Lives, I outline the three foundation pieces that are needed to establish and express Your True Self in order to live an Authentic Life.
Even though it sounds wonderful to be our True Self and live an Authentic Life, many of us are instinctually apprehensive about being real. Just thinking about expressing the real you may send up warning flags cautioning you to not rock the boat of your world. There are also many of you who just do not know how to be authentic! You ask, “Who am I…Really?”
Most of the human population does a great job of not being authentic. They take on the role of the False Self and they conform to what is acceptable. They do whatever is needed to get them what they want. The False Self role can be an effective way of avoiding confrontation or disappointing someone who is holding you emotionally hostage! However, there is a high price to maintain the False Self identity. The price is…the loss of True Self, which makes up the heart, soul and spirit of a persons being. The True Self holds all the potential for you to tap into the gifts and talents needed to fulfill your life purpose.
Only when you are tired of the frustration, sadness and disappointment of conforming to the role of False Self are you then FINALLY able to be just a little willing to listen to that voice of Truth inside of you. The voice of inner guidance, that continues to remind you when you go against Your True Self to conform to and/or please the outside world. Your inner voice is oh so small, yet so very persistent in reminding you again and again that what you did or said, in a particular situation, was not in alignment with Your True Self and it causes you emotional distress and physical discomfort.
The journey of finding and expressing Your True Self takes just a little willingness, to say “yes” to embracing what you have discovered, up to this point, is Your True Self. It is also important to discontinue playing the False Self role because it is harmful or not in alignment with Your True Self.
By being grounded in Your True Self, you can tap into the energy and insights needed to bring the pieces of your life and work together in fulfilling your life purpose.
True Self is resilient. So, no matter how you discount, avoid or just plain don’t pay attention…True Self is determined to get your attention until you are just a little willing to allow that small voice of inner guidance to direct you to be in alignment with Your True Self…fully expressing the power and beauty of YOU!
