The bible says that 'the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much' but how many of us are praying to no avail?”
Prayer is not about spirituality or religion, prayer is simply your belief in a higher power, your acknowledgement that you do not hold all the power.
The fact remains, many pray and many would like to know if their prayers are being heard. As well as many pray and know the power in their prayer. Lastly many come in prayer with an honest purpose instead of ulterior motive.
Prayer can help you and the lack of direction in prayer can hurt you. We live in a world that is huge yet small. Although our world may seem grandiose, diverse and even sometimes confusing, prayer bridges the gap. It is our proverbial bridge that unites all people, cultures, religions, paths, practices and old ways and new ways together. It could be a way to demonstrate faith on a daily basis. Still others rarely pray except when they are in serious need or trouble.
What Is Prayer?
Quite simply it is talking with God (the Creator). It is not a one-sided activity, God speaks, we listen, we speak and God listens to our hearts. Prayer can be exciting, powerful and fulfilling. Prayer is the force and sense of peace one recons with. It is the tool and the end all for many because there are different types of prayer and many types of needs or wants.
Prayer of Thanksgiving - Giving thanks to God for all things in your life. Being thankful is being grateful for his protection, provision, blessing, and most of all for his Son.
Prayer of Petition - Asking for the things we need in our life. Give us our daily bread. Give us the things we need to survive. These are normally a presentation of personal needs.
Prayer of Prevailing Prayer - consistent insistent prayer until a breakthrough takes place, until a change happens. The classic example of prevailing prayer would be healing be it physical or emotional.
Prayer of Intercession – Prayer for others. Unbinding, bended knee love where one pleads on behalf of someone else.
Lastly "rainbow prayer." A rainbow consists of a spectrum of colors and spans large area. In the same fashion rainbow prayers cover a large ray of classes (social and economic). Rainbow prayers goes beyond the geographic, social and economic barriers that are not normally accessible to you on a spiritual level. - Classic example instead of prayer for a loved one or relative, one prays for those associated with an object or event.
Why do you pray? Is it because it is something learned, something earned or what you hope for? Do you pray about your needs? Or do you pray about your dreams, your hate, your hurt, etc.?
Power of Prayer
With so much in the world the power behind prayer can provide a stable base and foundation in the ocean of chaos. Ones intentions, which can include desires, thoughts, words, and deeds, are the driving force and reason for prayer. With such great power some are able to experience the heart opening and the mind at complete relaxation. This process of becoming clear and allowing the Divine to reside and do what is his will is ultimate power. Prayer is a form of worship and the reward for that worship is given in the hereafter.
The power behind Prayer is the very essence of being a servant of the Creator and a marker of genuine conviction. The one who prays exhibits, through prayer, that there is a Divine presence that holds the ultimate power over the whole universe enables one to achieve their aims. Try prayer as a form of communication to better one self and to get in touch with a higher power/being. Instead of selfish prayers of what you want how about honest prayers or reality and faith where one recognizes their role in their own life. Honesty as it refers to one taking a good look in the mirror and being real and dealing with that.
Purpose of Prayer
Worldly purposes is not the goal of prayer, well at least it should not be. One should be content and focused on the pleasure of God rather than the pleasure of self. Prayer has a very great effect and in most cases it does yield results. However the results may not be immediate or even what you pictured it to be. The greatest pleasure and purpose of prayer is knowing that the one who prays realizes that there is One, who has Absolute, Divine, Power over everything and it is that One who has the Wisdom to know what the true result of prayer should be.
Prayer provides comfort and reality as well as true growth, potential, and substance to ones human life. It is the best way to remain focused and sane in an insane world complicated by our own misgivings and misinterpretations. No matter what the case let prayer be something you practice sincerely and open mindly.
