After receiving my BA degree in Psychology, learning about mental illness, overcoming life challenges, teaching others how to heal, I could not figure out why I still had a constant battle with mental illness. I always wanted to get therapy. I was hospitalized 6 times and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. “You can read my biography here https://dontcallmecrazy.com.” Every time I attempted to get therapy they would ask one question and I would respond, “No,” and then the therapist would get quiet. I would walk away confused each time. I recently found a good therapist with the help of good insurance.
One of the main things that I learned that was causing my illness was holding on too long to pain and making assumptions about how people feel about me and what is meant by the things said in their conversation, instead of just asking and confronting. Going on and on about your believed intentions of another can create drama, sickness, and unnecessary gossip. I learned to consider several possibilities for a person’s actions. Sometimes people see a stern expression on my face and immediately see me as a mean person, not aware of all the tragedy that has happened in my life and my disorder. I can be happy and still appear to have a frown.
