Once upon a time – long, long ago, AMERICA had
J-O-B-S! Going back to PRE-WWII, and during the war, and after the war – CONSUMERISM grew by leaps and bounds. There existed a phenomenon known as UNIONS. Jobs were PROTECTED, workers were PROTECTED, and families were PROTECTED.

UAW – United Auto Workers – AFL/CIO – American Federation of Labor/Congress of Industrial Workers – USA – United Seamstresses of America – ILA – International Longshoremen’s Association – USWA – United Steelworkers of America… and more, more, more!

Please note that some of these titles may be slightly errant on my part, but the point is clear no less --- ARE THEY ALL NOW DEFUNCT?

Automobile manufacturers WENT TO BED with Japan, years and years ago! Factories CLOSED! People lost jobs, benefits, pensions! Somehow, the CORPORATION thinks it is better and cheaper to build cars OVERSEAS, then transport them across the ocean, and PARK them at our seaports? Then, add TRANSPORTATION COSTS to the sticker price for the stupid consumer! PROGRESS, PILGRIM?

Labor and Industry – another fine example of YANKEE INGENUITY – buildings close, more people and families lose jobs, benefits, and pensions. WHY? Now, we’re given the excuse of the almighty new term, GLOBALIZATION! Because the wonders of the telephone can let some ‘TECH’ guy in INDIA befuddle you with his language barrier, and his vast knowledge of computer Information Technology! GOOD LUCK, SCHMUCK! MORE PROGRESS? OR REGRESS?

ROAD CONSTRUCTION CREWS – have you happened to notice on practically every Expressway, Highway, Street, Road, and Lane – the preponderance of GREEN CARD BEARERS? This means that STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE OPTED FOR CHEAP LABOR, rather than provide honest jobs for honest AMERICAN CITIZENS! So, when the State government does it, then the Cities and Counties jump right on the BANDWAGON ALSO! VIVALA ZAPATA! PROGRESS?

SEAMSTRESSES AND SEWERS AND TAILORS – although there were many negative stories in the past, about “SWEAT SHOPS” many, many thousands of honest hardworking AMERICAN CITIZENS had jobs! NOW? You guessed it, more IMPORTED ILLEGAL ALIENS and WORSE “SWEAT SHOPS” than ever! Billions upon billions of dollars of AMERICAN MONEY now FLOWS OUTSIDE the country, to pay for the huge volume of clothing goods, manufactured and assembled ABROAD. IMPORTS from: Mexico, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, India, Somalia, and more, more, more countries just ABOUND! OH – sorry, did I forget to mention the newest, crooked-est, DUMB-EST perpetrator of death and destruction to our PETS? Good old RED COMMUNIST CHINA! PILGRIMS PROGRESS?

THANK GOD FOR CHEAP LABOR! We can all sit back and relax, sucking down our TWINKIES and EIGHT-TIMES PURIFIED TAP WATER, while watching our MORBID OBESE FAT ASSES GET BIGGER, AND BIGGER, AND WIDER AND WIDER… and really do something constructive and wise, CONTRIBUTE TO THE COFFERS OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURERS COFFER BY INGESTING AND INJECTING FOR THE WORST EPIDEMIC OF DIABETES THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER EXPERIENCED…. HOOKED --- FOR THE REST OF OUR STUPID LIVES! WOULD YOU LIKE TO SUPER-SIZE THAT? PROGRESS?

LONGSHOREMEN? – What are they? DINOSAURS? Now, we have computerized CARGO CONTAINERS – so, OTHER countries who OWN and OPERATE our SEAPORTS, can more easily SNEAK CONTRABAND, DRUGS, BOMBS --- or whatever in hell they please – ONTO OUR SHORES! TICK – TICK – TICK … PROGRESS IS JUST TICKING AWAY!

STEELWORKERS? – What are they? Well now, PILGRIMS, they are probably the minority of SKYSCRAPER CLIMBERS that risk their lives every day, erecting buildings and BRIDGES, that the GREEDY GUVMINT ALLOWS TO DETERIORATE, THEN FALL DOWN AND GO BOOM --- KILLING INNOCENT UNKNOWING MOTORISTS! But, wait a minute, what happened to the REAL STEELWORKERS? - the men who toiled and sweat, and suffered myriads of BURNS ACTUALLY MAKING THE STEEL? OH – SO SOLLY – huge CORPORATIONS like: US STEEL, BETHLEHEM STEEL, PITTSBURGH STEEL, and others, were just about put out of business by CHEAP JAPANESE STEEL! PRIOR HISTORY PROGRESS!

Let me see if I got this straight? THEY sneak-attacked us at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 – we dropped two A-BOMBS on THEM – so THEY SURRENDERED – then we OCCUPIED their COUNTRY for YEARS, IMPORTING CHEAP CRAPPOLA with labels stuck on them, saying: “MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN.” – AMERICAN TAX DOLLARS RE-BUILT THEIR COUNTRY (making some of THEIR industries more MODERN and UP-TO-DATE than ours) – then twenty or thirty years later, THEY HELP CLOSE OUR STEEL MILLS! Sounds about right! PROGRESSIVE DIGRESSION PROGNOSTICATES REGRESSIVE RECESSION AND/OR DEPRESSION! Say that three times fast!

One of our big successful corporations (whose name escapes me at the moment) used to have a logo, which said: “PROGRESS IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCT!” Where are they now? Does the company still exist?

Although I can’t remember the year, I think I was a teenager when I heard the news that I could not comprehend – recall the picture of the dog, next to a VICTROLA, with the caption: “His Master’s Voice!” – RCA VICTOR was going to move its operations OVERSEAS! Obviously now, one of the first, earliest examples of EARLY AMERICAN PROGRESS --- GIVE OUR JOBS TO FOREIGNERS!
