All Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

How come, all of a sudden, as the Oil-Gas Crunch-Crisis reaches a pinnacle, almost every automobile manufacturer is able to just wave a magic wand - and immediately start producing either Hybrid-Electrics, or Full Electrics? Coincidence? I don’t think so!

For years now, I have been writing and complaining about the fact that these same manufacturers have been buying out inventors and securing Patent Rights, for over Fifty years - then they BURIED the ideas. They did not want to produce anything more cost-efficient, more sensible, or more conducive to the environment - at least until the time was right!

That time has now come - just like the Housing and Mortgage Market Booms - they’ve had over ten years of producing their Super-Duper high, wide and handsome: Hummers, SUV’s, Pick-ups, 4-Wheelers, All-Wheelers, and every other Movva-lovin’ Gas-Guzzling vehicle that a Fool and his Money could Part with!

But, now the time is RIPE! Now, that the public is so P.O.’d and demanding more efficient, green-friendly cars, they can’t produce them fast enough! And you can bet your bottom dollar that every one of them will be sold at a PREMIUM PRICE! In fact, just a few moments ago, I saw a TV ad announcing that soon, even the high-end Cadillac Escalade will have a HYBRID coming out. The current 2008 model only has a huge 403 HP engine - wonder what the new ‘wonder’ will sport? Bet it won’t be a little 1 HP electric motor!

Are you old enough to remember the aftermath of the 1972 Gas Crisis? All the big old ‘Boats’ that were 8-cylinder, high-powered gas-hogs were a ‘dime a dozen’ - like ‘white elephants’ you could not even give one away, let alone sell it! Have you noticed all the FOR SALE signs on all the Socker Mom SUV’s sitting in people’s driveways and lawns? It has taken about thirty-five years, but history is now repeating itself.

Back then, it was the 4-cylinder Foreign Import that stole the market. Back then, is when all the American auto Manufacturers and Dealers ‘went to bed with’ the makers of foreign cars. That’s when more and more factories were built on American soil, to produce foreign imports right HERE! That’s when some deals were struck behind closed doors - to SACRIFICE the UAW Union workers, their livelihoods, their benefits and retirement packages, and the factories of Detroit.

In fact, way back in 1965, when I bought my very first New car, a Dodge Dart, with a Slant-Six engine, a Japanese produced car, sold under the name of the Dodge COLT was available. For several years, more and more American makers were putting major foreign
Parts in their cars - Transmissions - Engines - Rear-Ends - Rack-and-Pinion Steering - Carburetors - Alternators - and other parts.
Perhaps the thought of the day was - If you can’t beat ‘em - Join ‘em!

So, my Fellow Americans, now that you have patiently WAITED for about 35 YEARS - the GOOD THINGS are finally coming - and -
KEY-RIST - are you going to PAY for them! I’ll bet that Pound-for-Pound and Average Cost Per Mile - it will be DEARLY!
