MOLLY - glad you liked it - I often get the germ of an idea while working, driving along the road. The 'Seed' is usually the title, and then mull over in my mind, until the first rhyme is set as a 'hook' to remember it.
Later that night, or the next morning, I 'capture' it in WORD, then go to Thesaurus to find rhyming possibilities. Once I have a few typed, and a better 'theme' emerges, I then rearrange the verses Alphabetically, and then search for 'stretches' that are 'forced' maybe's.

Don't worry about the EDs -- they are stuck in wierd globe places and having entirely too much fun to bother about the likes of us :-)
Lots of questions. A dearth of answers. But not a bit of it is any problem for me. Why? Because I am an East Texas hermit, living in a tiny trailer, no bills other than a tiny phone bill and a $300 monthy rent which includes utilities, and I am low-maintenance. My low hotel income keeps me stacking cash while everyone else is moaning about their credit debts. I am not worried -- I am happy.
"Life According to CNN" is an entertainment for me. Bush, Obama, McCain, Biden, Palin, Wall Street, Congress ... can corrupt each other all they want and they will not bother me at all because I am out of the investment/debt loop -- I am not possessed by my possessions because I have no possessions to possess me.
The powers that be should fear people like me because we have nothing to lose.

He explained HOW BIG OIL is CONTROLLING even which crops are planted, how SPRAYED with oil-based chems.
PLUS gov. pays them EXTRA PER ACRE to NOT GROW ORGANIC, healthy crops ...
PLUS - Genetically Engineered CRAP & SEEDS being exported all over the World ...

Do you - own/ work at a motel? When I bought my trailer 3 years ago, the rent was only $320/mo. LOWEST in area. others started at $400 - 425 -450. 2nd year, went to $340 PLUS $20.50 mo. supposedly for Baltimore County coffers - NO increased 'benefits or amenities' of any kind. 3rd year jumped again to $360 + above BS.
But, like you said WE aren't in the big Titanic, we're just floatin' along in our little dinghies!
I may BITCH a lot, but my FREEDOM to do what I choose each day, without someone NAGGING me, is a Blessing. Retirement (albeit partial) and SINGLEHOOD is now a JOY to me.

TED - Terrific detailed explanation, and well structured.
I thought I was intelligent - gifted in both English and Math - but - somehow I just could never grasp this delineated detail.
Some time ago I realized and accepted that I'm but a mere Rhymester. I mix and match what ever flows through my feeble mind. To me, the IDEA, or THEME presented is the MEAT of the attempted poem, or sonnet, or ode, or limerick. If the idea is transmitted, and understood by the reader, that is my sole purpose - to amuse, to teach, or to invite thinking.
I never was very good at Free Verse either, so never studied it as well. I guess I'm just a hardheaded Maverick - some pieces wind up pretty good, while others may fail miserably, especially to Purists.
In the final analysis, it is but a small minority of poets that ever achieve either riches or stardom, doubtless I shall never be among them.
But, your efforts herein may well be most beneficial to younger aspiring poets!

IF it is paid for - no payments due, consider selling it - at a LOSS, no doubt - BUT - if you can get enough for a used more economical 4 cylinder, it would save on GAS outlay. Just a thought.
NEXT - down here, or up here, whichever - we have DOLLAR TREE stores - EVRYTHING is $1 - ergo, all of the canned goods are 2/$1 = 50 cents - I get all my stuff there - potatoes, string-beans, baked beans, stewed tomatoes, peas, corn, sauerkraut, soups, crackers, cereals, bread, rolls - and more! NO OTHER STORE IS THIS CHEAP!
I do NOT subscribe to any - newspapers, magazines, no cable, no dish - NUTTIN' HONEY!
REVIEW ALL of your poems - see which got the most favorable reviews, and submit a whole bunch to several different publishers - if anybody likes anything, you might earn a couple of bucks. Can't hurt to try!
Check your local area publications, see what genre stuff they print - send a few samples, maybe even a few stories, especially ones on current events, like politics, economy, war, whatever.
DUM-DUM me, has been posting here at AD for 5.5 years now, never sent anything anywhere else, and never earned a plugged nickel. DUH?
My 3 days a week PT is what keeps me treading water - if I lost it, i'd be right in the same boat with you. Heaven FORBID - one of us would go OVERBOARD! and you’re a big BEAR, so I would get wet & cold - and PISSED!
How about the Seafood restaurants? you know how to clean fish, don't you? and you wouldn't have to worry about the SMELL, huh?
What about Farms? any nearby? Shovelling horse manure is certainly manly work! I'm told it smells SWEET after awhile!
FINALLY - each week INVEST merely ONE DOLLAR on the lottery - JUST ONE, won't be missed, and hell, you might even WIN something - but - "you gotta play to win!"

ACTION - was a wild guess - have several nephews who were there also -
neither ever talks about it.
A lot of PTSD from that era, but very little attention or TREATMENT given by VA.
JOB STUFF - I was CANNED 3 times in my life, and each by a FRIGGIN' CPA RAT BASTARD! I never did anything wrong, did a great job, but didn't take any SHIT - "personality conflict" was the hidden reason.
Each time it was quite devastating - each time during a recession period, and was out of work for a year or longer...
Back then, though I had 2 kids to support, a working wife, who had never earned more than me - but was forced to accept much lower paying jobs -
last one, in '96 dropped from $40,000 to $10 an hour - PT TEMP, with NO benefits - 30 + years as a Manager ...
so I know IT SUCKS! KEEP THE FAITH, PAL !!! Tom.
