The problem I'm having is just that: It's (a) LIFE. The babe's: conversely, one who is sick or dying needs help. Why not use adult stem cells? Don't take one life to make another's better. Just my opinion, such as it is. Still and all, Tom, an excellent poem.

KARLA - this is all new info for me also, and I'm certainly no expert, but I don't think it is a case of anyone actually killing babies in order to get their stem cells - it is the exact opposite -
When some woman has already decided to abort - when that procedure is performed, the results would be waste just like an umbilical cord, and never help anyone.
Conversely, the cells from an Embryo - Not yet a Fetus - can, in one sense, approach Immortality by being frozen, preserved, and later Live On in helping another human being. As I understand it, there is a big difference between Adult stem cells and Embryonic ones - they are much more limited in what may be grown.
If I understand this correctly, this Research is still in its infancy (no pun intended) but if perfected, in a way is quite similar to Donors of Organs, who have the designation on their Driver's Licenses.
While there may always be greedy ghouls out there trying to profit via illegal Black Markets, the greater majority of dedicated Doctors and Scientists are trying to perform worthy causes.
Imagine if it ever becomes possible to Re-Grow entire lost limbs for Disabled Veterans, and other victims of accidents - would this not be almost miraculous?
Anyway, it is still a controversial subject, and as such, many feelings and opinions are debated hotly. I like to think that - where there is Life, there is Hope!

As you can see from the date posted, this little tongue-in-cheek ditty was posted over a month ago, right? And - was inspired by the first Real occurrence, right?
And yet, just Yesterday - an American Nuclear Sub came UP into the bowels of an American ship -
(CNN) -- A U.S. Navy submarine and a Navy amphibious ship that collided Friday in the Strait of Hormuz south of Iran have arrived in Bahrain to be assessed for damage, the Navy said.
The submarine USS Hartford and amphibious ship USS New Orleans are shown in Navy photos.
The submarine USS Hartford and amphibious ship USS New Orleans arrived Saturday in Mina Salman pier to "to further assess and evaluate the damage that resulted from their collision at sea," the service said in a written statement.
Fifteen sailors were slightly hurt aboard the Hartford in the collision, which occurred early Friday morning.
On Friday, Navy officials in Washington told CNN that there was significant damage to the sail, or tower-like structure on the topside of the submarine. On Saturday, the Navy said there was no damage to the submarine's propulsion unit.
No injuries were reported aboard the New Orleans. The ship's fuel tank ruptured, spilling 25,000 gallons of marine diesel fuel in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Navy said in the Saturday statement.
"Aerial searches of the area where the fuel spill occurred were conducted yesterday, and revealed no indication of any remaining fuel on the ocean's surface," the Navy said. "The quick dissipation of the fuel is likely due to the type of fuel, and various environmental factors to include air and water temperatures, winds and seas."
When the collision occurred, both vessels were headed to ports in the Persian Gulf to stock up on provisions and allow for some recreation, Navy spokesman Lt. Nate Christensen said Friday.
Christensen said there were about 200 sailors in the sub and 1,000 sailors and Marines aboard the ship.
The Strait of Hormuz is located between the United Arab Emirates and Iran, linking the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is heavily used by oil tankers.
Both vessels are on regularly scheduled deployments to the U.S. Navy Central Command area of responsibility, and conduct Maritime Security Operations.

From young children on up, I tried to teach my daughter and son this principle:
Anger and hatred are like CANCER - they eat away at the person who harbors them. Meanwhile, the 'other party' may go on with his/her life - happily, and never even knowing or caring that you suffer with such anger or hatred.
No one can make, or force another to think, say, or do - anything that they don't want! We can not control others. To even try, is a waste of time and talent.
Be positive in what you think, say, or do yourself - and concentrate only on self-improvement. All else is futility.

Great movie. Even greater review. In all probability the younger folk will watch it "for the sex scenes." All pretty tame by today's standards.
The issue here then too is, who lowered our standards? And why were the SAT tests dummed down? And why does there have to be different versions of the same movie; one for the American public and another for the rest of the world?
And why do little kids need to know about gay sexual practices? And why is the media owned by large conglomerates? And why to they put addictive drugs in to kids cereals and beverages and snacks? And since when did self esteem become more important than writing and passing tests in school? Who took phonics out of our elementary schools?
And for God's sake, Why Can't Johnny Read? Just needed to rant a bit and to support my favorite ranter a tad too. Hugs, J'nia

To answer your question about the flag - I don't really know because it is a symbol. I'll take the time to tell you a true story about another symbol -
Over 40 years ago, in a Speech class, the instructor entered the room, and everyone was talking. To get our attention, he held up a book over his head.
It had a red cover with a gold cross on it. Then, to our surprise he SLAMMED it down on the floor! We all gasped in astonishment!
After observing the Over-Reaction of the entire class, he picked up the book and removed the paper jacket - the actual book therein was a Webster's Dictionary! He then explained that he knew we all thought that it was a Bible because of the cross, and tonight we will discuss the power of symbolism - even when it is Wrong!

"Animal Farm!" WE have all the power, don't they know?
Storm the Bastille, or maybe not. You undoubtedly have this in your country and I just discovered a couple of years ago that we have it too. We have mock towns built behind high fences which are used by the RCMP, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, to practice crowd control, to keep us from assembling in large groups, to prevent us from storming government offices, the Houses of Legislature, the grocery stores, the malls. Gas and food supplies are already affected.
So far, we still have that 200 year old gleaning law which says that any citizen can pick crops by hand from the edges of any crop growing field or orchard. But how do you get to these if you can't put gas in the car. In the mean time, the haves get more and the have nots get less.
Globalization has ruined the world and is responsible for millions of deaths around the world. It all sucks pretty badly and most of our power has been wrestled from us. I'm glad I'm getting old, older every day. Don't envy the young at all. Remember that other old movie "Soilient Green?" Yep, it's coming to a city near you. My little rant.
