Nor can you Legislate ‘STUPIDITY’!

“A Fool and his Money are soon Parted!”

LIKEWISE:

“A Fool and his Safety can Not be Legislated!”


Yesterday, I listened to 88.1 WYPR’s Daily Show -
‘Mid-Day’ with Moderator/Host Dan Rodricks -
His guest was Dr. Richard Lichenstein, Prof. of Pediatrics.

The Topic centered around Deaths and Injuries of Young People
Because of Accidents while they were Wearing Stereo
Ear-Phones and/or Ear-Buds.

They Fail to Hear Warnings by Cars, Trains, et cetera.

This topic then expanded to Distractions by Cell Phones,
As well as other Possibilities.

While these Accidents, Injuries, and Deaths are certainly Tragic -
To Punish ALL for the Lack of Common Sense,
And/or Stupidity of a Few - is simply WRONG!

Years ago, when I worked in Downtown Baltimore,
A young employee of the same company
Was Hit by a Car in Broad Daylight, on a Main Street,
Because he simply STEPPED OUT in Front of the Car!

WHY?
He was wearing and listening to his WALK-MAN!
He was Fortunate, and only received Minor Injuries,
Along with a Broken Leg!

He was LUCKY!
He could have been Killed!
Did he LEARN A LESSON?

A BIG HELL NO! WHY?
BECAUSE HE WAS A STUPID INDIVIDUAL -
WHO CONTINUED THE SAME PRACTICE AFTERWARDS!

A very old Adage is:
“If You Play With Fire - You will Get Burned!”

As a Corollary:
“If You Lack Common Sense, or Are Stupid -
You Will Pay The Consequences!”

Let us Consider Some Other Distractions, While Driving:

Listening to the Radio, or CD Player ...
Lighting a Cigarette ...
Talking or Arguing with a Passenger ...
Checking your Face in a Mirror ...
Putting on Make-Up ...
Letting your Screaming Mischievous Kids Upset You ...
Listening to a ‘Back-Seat Driver’ ...
Polluting the World with your Volume Too Loud ...
Googling at Gorgeous Gals ...
Ditto for Guys, if you’re a Gal ...

And On and On ... Ad Infinitum ...

Should ALL the Above Be BANNED?
Do We Need Government to Interfere MORE?
DUH ?

I DON’T THINK SO!
