I understand exactly what you are saying. It does make you wonder if GOD is somewhere on crack. The very idea of that tickles me. What if it's us that are here to do the "righteous" work and we don't understand? That's a hoot.

I often sadly wonder the same - where is God today? The only possible conclusion I can come up with is that He finally gave up on mankind and our wicked ways, and He's now off to another part of the galaxy, answering the prayers of some far more benevolent species on some far distant planet somewhere.

From my soapbox it looks like you're new pewter threw this poem into the articles section. Or, is it this article got put in some kind of automatic poem format by that infernal device? ;-)

You have raised some great questions that most believers never consider because they have simplified their complicated lives by focusing on a single, often repetitive, rather addictive reference that allows them to avoid all the vices that you refer to so well. They always say, "Jesus saved me from…" Jesus didn't save Green Stamps! All these weak and fearful people, addicted to one thing or another, have been fodder for all the religions of the world since caught out in the open without food or shelter amidst wild animals eons ago, seeking some relief from their fears. Religion fills that bill and fills the coffers of those who "work the system" to their benefit.

It is these very same systems and hierarchies created through "belief" that keep most of the world in bondage that almost no amount of "charitable contributions" can solve.

There is hope. Slavery was abolished in the United States. Apartheid was abolished in South Africa. Cruel empires have fallen like Hitler's. The worst religious cults have failed (perhaps all religious cults should fail--the Roman Catholic empire has been shaken). The Arab Spring is just beginning and it will take a long time to unfold. Marshall McLuhan's global village is upon us and now, young people everywhere have a voice that's being heard and images are being seen from the hands of those young people's mobile devices never seen before. The world is being democratized like never before and it's happening so fast that like the Beatles took down the Soviet Union, John Lennon's dream will probably come to pass in this century when humankind realizes that we have much bigger problems to face like saving our mother Earth, than bickering over who is superior or who has a superior god, wasting many peoples' lives in fruitless aggravation.

I've wondered about these things myself. I wish mankind would try to figure out ways to bring about peace one iota as much as mankind seeks to make war. Oh, I'd better not get on my soapbox.
