I HOPE NOT!
And, corporations are plundering resources at a tremendous rate and then using all of those entities in their power to sell us on buying their goods and services. And we do, accelerating the destruction. When the problems they create finely surface, they tend to morph into some other entity and remain blameless while the earth has to heal itself.
There is something we can do. First, think and act frugally. We don't have to buy and use most of the corporate stuff and services just because they are there. And, we can buy the goods and services of local people not associated with corporations. Unfortunately, so many people have been spoon fed corporation pablum from birth and easily fall into the "easy way."
Tom, you need to read Jonah Goldberg's excellent book 'LIBERAL FASCISM: THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN LEFT, FROM MUSSOLINI TO THE POLITICS OF CHANGE (2007). If you aren't familiar with it, I think you'll be quite illuminated by is (and how it delves into 'Corporatism'). Corporations are infinitely more complex than most of us realise. I share your distaste for them and their immense power over our lives, but examination of the context wherein they grow & thrive is an eye-opener.
Good list, but yes, you missed a couple of important arenas - the world's military establishments, education, research, science grants and perhaps most important, our mythology and heritage (via entertainment, text books, etc.), therefore our future. Nice rant.
