You are preaching to the choir and have got your facts straight. I'm still trying to figure out why people fall for the lies that some politicians preach. Perhaps, it's because most people are just sheeple, like the religious "flocks" that follow blindly, and do what their friends or family do. That's why they like kings and dictators so much to tell them that they are unimportant and deserve their miserable lives under the thumb of oppression following patriotism over true freedom.
Sociologists are very good at coming up with labels for groups of people and politicians love to waive labels as ways of denigrating whole groups of people without understanding individuals. Parties and PACs package ideological agendas that make it easy for voters to mindlessly pick an agenda and let the politicians fight it out. I think the reason we have only two parties is that we are so concerned about "majority" voting in this country as though it were the way that everyone believes or that everyone should follow… The majority. Most people don't know that there were Whigs and Tories in the past and that the Republicans are a new party on the block that started out with rather progressive ideas like ending slavery and reducing the power of the rich.
A nice rant that most Americans would agree with. The question is how do we make government more fair, more responsive to the people, and less ritualistic and ideologically run by dynasties of wealth and power with little moral fiber or inclination to do what is right.
