When someone says this to me; I immediately let them know that I was only smart enough to know that I do not know. I read books, attend seminars and listen to others that are in life where I want to be.
If I sound wise to you it is because I am standing on the shoulders of giants. George Clason in his classic “The Richest Man in Babylon” observed that, “As for study, learning is of two kinds: the one being the things that we learned and knew; the second being the training that taught us how to find out that which we do not know.”
I had to walk away from the life that I was merely surviving in and into a life of living. I wish that I could say that it has been easy but it has not. My life has not been easy by a long shot but it has been rewarding! I have had the privilege of being a light for many people by offering words of encouragement. Les Brown said; “Speak to the greatness in people and they will rise to the occasion.” This does not occur immediately many times however; it does plant a seed.
I once read that; “Your mind is liken to a farmer’s field, it is only with the consistent and persistent application of nourishing waters will the seeds bring forth a bountiful harvest!” That came from The Proverbs of Leadership by Stephenson Willis.
It has been a journey of discovery for me. The decision to pursue personal development is by far the second best decision in my life; the first being to stop using drugs and alcohol. Now, I want to pass on the answer to the question that I had run away from for so many years.
The question was “What is the meaning of my life?” To keep things simple, the answer is “To have a life of meaning!” I know
this may seem over-simplified however; the beauty of genius lies in simplicity.
