You’ve been broken, stressed, worried, and even lonely. Now it’s time to reap the benefits of your hard work and sincerity. I’m sure you’ve been tempted to turn back and find quick and easy ways to please yourself, but you’ve stood your ground. Now you should receive nothing but the best.

No one works without expecting something n return. If you walk in obedience and believe you’ll be blessed with the best, you will. God will give you exactly what you need.

During my healing process, all types of men came my way. I talked to all of them, but many I spared myself the opportunity to get to know. Within five minutes of our conversation, I saw things like arrogance, pride, irresponsibility, controlling, and unfaithfulness, among other things. And those I allowed myself to know, the minute I saw bad character traits, I cut them out of my life very quickly. I knew what I could and could not handle.

Most of them didn’t want to deal with the fact that I was still hurting. They either wanted to look good, get me in the bed, or add me into their “friends” collection. I don’t think so. They were not willing to help me heal. They were in it only for themselves. However, I had high expectations of what I wanted and I received what I asked God for. I wanted to meet someone who would love me, respect me, minister to my emotions and protect my heart. God did it all.

I mentioned nothing to God about looks. We spend so much time concerning ourselves about the outward appearance of a person, overlooking the fact that that person may have what we need on the inside. I got exactly what I asked for. God sent someone my way that cares about my whole self.

When we met I was coming out of a hard trial. The healing process was almost over, but I was seriously suffering from depression and oppression. He ministered to me every time we talked. The sound of his voice blessed my soul. He was nothing like the other guys and was a one hundred degree turnaround from my ex-husband. He is wonderful and I thank God for him daily.

I believe the Lord sent him to me to help me in the season I was in. We both believe what we have is a “in the meantime” relationship. We may not be together forever, but he has certainly allowed God to use him for this appointed time. He was overly patient with me, allowing me to open up and trust at my own pace. He is my personal blessing. I call him Mike.

I’m sure you know what you don’t want. If you know what you don’t want, there will be no problem knowing what you want. Your expectations should be high.

Some people believe you should accept what you can get, but I say different. Who wants a handsome man who slaps his lady around? He may look like the man in the front cover of a magazine, but he has some very serious issues. If he’s trying to stop hitting women, let him practice on someone else. You? You have to go! Don’t settle for that! You want a man who will never lift his hands to you unless he’s giving you this great big hug. Mike has let me know he will never put his hands on a woman and never will. He also has made a promise to me that if I ever put my hands on him in the wrong way, I would never see him again. He tells me I owe him that same respect. Oooh. Gotta love that man!

Men, you don’t want a woman who always want money, clothes, and jewelry, among other things. She should want to be with you because she enjoys you. Also, you don’t need a woman who talks loud and talk you down in public, embarrassing you. You need a woman who’s presence brings you joy. You should be glad to go home from work. You should never dread going home or even calling home. Your home, woman, and children should be your joy and your strength. If you’re not married and your lady does not make you feel good about being a man, you should seek elsewhere. It’s already hard being a man; you don’t need making it worse.

If you’re not happy, it’s your fault. You’re probably still here you are because you’re afraid of offending someone. Maybe your spouse, friend, companion or co-worker doesn’t have the vision you have. Perhaps you’re on two different levels. If your trying to go forward and they are going backwards or remaining neutral, you’re not going anywhere except you sever the lost. Remember, it’s your life. You owe it to God, but your ultimately responsible. Cry if you need to, just keep going.

Interesting article. I have been a student of optimism-pessimism and expectations for some time now. I don't think you can force yourself to be an optimist and have high expectations until you experience the ultimately good, caring, positive, nurturing dominant aspect of life and God over its opposite, especially in adversity...seeing that tragedies and even evil have an ultimately good purpose. I have been in some very dark places in my life, but God and life have pulled me through to a good place, eventually, every single time. So now I can know for certain why one should be an optimist and expect high success and rewards. However, this expectations thing really gets in the way with human relationships because of our fundamental fairness thermometer (which God does not have because of the problems it causes!; we act responsibly, kind, right, fair, sensibly and helpful, and we "expect" others to return that stuff...however, as soon as you expect a certain result, it disappoints you. By not expecting something, and just being and doing (intrinsic motivation), anything that happens is good and enjoyable. Our biggest demon is our dualistic mind which convinces us some things are okay and others are not. Perrsonally i don't think God intended us to divide life in half--He just wanted us to experience both sides of the equation so that we could know how both sides fit purposefully together in a whole that produced more good than either side alone. Hard concept to digest, but that is exactly why it is hard...none of us want a free prize. Knowledge and wisdom can be painful...I am sure you will agree that we writers write from experiences that put ourselves through unpleasant pain and difficult growth. Just some rabling thoughts...Bill Cottringer
