LIFE IS GREAT

Life is suppose to render us the fullness of joy, but we allow it to take away from us. How is that? We choose not to listen to life’s instructions. For an example, if we fail to take care of our teeth or have become slow at following through appointments, in the end we lose our teeth: We lose our smile.

We have lost our spouse because we failed to provide what is needed. We held on to what we thought was needed or what once was. Everything changed; his needs changed; her needs changed; we should have changed our provision to sustain that change. Instead we argued, he left and we’re looking for something but have no idea what it is. Why?

We have lost our children because we failed to raise the banner. We thought it would be better to become their friend, and that is how they treat us, with no respect. They’re totally selfish, like they are with their friends. They lie to us, like they lie to their friends. They walk out on us when we’re talking, like they walk out on their friends. They no longer bring us report cards, letters from their teachers, detention slips to notify us. They deceive us that they’re going to school, and go to a friend’s house (who is allowed to attend school when he gets ready) and watch tv and play playstation2 for hours. They join chat rooms and community sites and talk about sex, drugs, and parties. Why?

We spend our money like we have lots of it and more on the way. We’d rather buy a $30 purse than pay a $25 water bill. We’d rather place rims on the car than pay child support. We’d rather play 10 lottery tickets than give $5 to the church. And we wonder why we remain in the projects yet another year. And we wonder why our children our mad because they have the same clothes on from the beginning of the year. Why?

We go to work, late, leave early, extend lunch and wonder why nothing is getting done. We sneak and ebay, email, and instant message our family and friends, not knowing our computer is recording every move we make. We go to work as if we are working the family business and never have to worry about unemployment. Why?

Again I say, life was given to us to enjoy, but we have caused our own heartache. But I have good news for you today. Today is another day you can begin doing things differently. Tomorrow would be a good day to begin, but today is even better. Enjoy the rest of your life. Put things in order and live the way God intended for you and I to live all along.

Awesome article! This really struck a nerve with me.

You GET IT!

These are all excellent insights, as it all comes down to personal responsibility...we are all responsible for each of our actions and the consequences of those actions, which, in effect, means we're ultimately responsible for everything that happens to us.

Too often we're tempted to hide behind excuses, like "I suffer from the disease of alcoholism" (Mel Gibson), or "I'm poor and that big company can afford a little pilferage now and again."

There's really no excuse that enables us to abandon our self-responsibility. If one drinks too much, put down the bottle, if one's prone to temptation, get your head straight...that's the beauty of free will - self control.

Anyone who cherishes freedom, truly cherishes it, knows that real freedom doesn't exist in the absence of personal responsibility.

Surrendering our personal responsibility is nothing less than surrendering our self-ownership.
