Little Bean – a beagle/dachshund mix - almost became alligator lunch the other day at Lake Houston. She carries the nasty wounds of a large alligator – deep gashes on the back of her neck, and puncture wounds on the front.
Little Bean was on her owner’s backyard boat ramp when a hungry lake alligator grabbed her by the head. Sophie, her canine companion, immediately grabbed Little Bean by the leg and forcefully tried to pull her out of the alligator’s mouth. And, she would not let go.
Luckily, the dogs’ owner arrived and scared off the alligator, while brave Sophie pulled Little Bean to safety.
Little Bean is recovering nicely.
We would all be extremely lucky to have such a brave and loyal friend as Sophie the dog.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww those gators are nothing to mess with--i know
used to live north of hammond, louisiana--there was a bayou behind my apartment...the neighbor had a big ole rottweiler, greaseball...he'd tie greaseball up at the side of the apartments, i'd tell him not to do that, a gator could get him. my neighbor said, "there ain't no gator stupid enough to tangle with a full grown rottweiler." well, one day, the neighbor's at work, i'm in my apartment, i hear this ungodly whining...yep. gator got greaseball. dragged him right into the bayou and had him in a death spin. i called the neighbor--by the time he got home, too late...
this write brought that image vividly back to mind--horrible, horrible, but i'm so thankful this little pooch had someone who could save him. good dogs. :) great write! and thank you for your great big, animal loving heart. :)
