Thought I’d share this wonderful animal story, since most animal stories these days seem to be far too tragic.

This was reported on the AP News Wires yesterday:

A woman spotted something bobbing up and down in the water in the Gulf of Mexico three miles off shore recently while on a boating outing with friends.

She assumed it was a turtle or a piece of sea kelp.

But as her boat got closer to the object and slowed down, she found to her amazement that it was a tiny kitten about 9-inches long, paddling furiously, and screaming at the top of his lungs.

The compassionate woman scooped him up and brought him on board.  She said the kitten sat with her on the boat for 8-hours, and she wondered how he had managed to survive in the choppy water.

“He was exhausted and stressed, and his heart was pumping very fast.”

Three days after he was found, a veterinarian examined the 10-week old kitten and discovered that he was fairly healthy, except for a slight case of intestinal worms.

I guess being an intrepid fisherman, it figures that this brave little kitten might have a few worms on him.

This courageous little critter has already been adopted, and, he has been appropriately named – Nemo.
