Alaska’s present day wolf slaughter is definitely out of control, and, it’s still illegal by federal law. Yet, our leaders take no action, to stop it; and most of us, could care less.
This year alone, 124 American timber wolves have already been gunned down from the skies.
And nearly 800 wolves have been killed by aerial hunters over Alaskan skies in the last five years.
Just recently, 28 Alaskan timber wolves were shot down near their dens -- including 14 defenseless wolf pups illegally killed by Alaskan state officials.
The former Governor of Alaska re-instituted this extremely barbaric aerial hunting years ago; the present day Governor of Alaska has also readily endorsed it; and our elected federal officials do nothing, to stop it.
Yet, the use of aircraft to shoot or harass animals from the air is still illegal under the Airborne Hunting Act, enacted way back in 1972. This act was passed by Congress after a vast nationwide outcry against the aerial hunting of wolves.
But state officials in Alaska have continued to brazenly circumvent the intent of the Airborne Hunting Act by exploiting a loophole in this law allowing states to ‘administer’ wildlife using aircraft.
Under the guise of ‘wildlife management,’ Alaskan officials contend its current aerial hunting program is not hunting at all, but that it constitutes legitimate ‘wildlife management’ that artificially boosts wild moose, caribou, and elk populations.
They even allow private hunters to participate in this extremely cruel and barbaric practice of gunning down wolves from the sky. Today, timber wolves in Alaska can be shot down by anyone – from airplanes or helicopters – and chased to the point of exhaustion, then shot at close range. No wolf is off limits in Alaska today – not even pups or pregnant females.
And the ‘success’ of Alaska’s aerial hunting, and our own government’s callous refusal to stop it, is now prompting officials in many other states, to want to do the very same. Some Western states also now want to shoot down our bears – from the sky.
And all of these many state officials now want to do this to appease powerful hunting groups, modern day cattle ranching organizations, and cash-cow lobbyists, who all very greedily want all animal predators killed off in this vast nation of ours – so that they can more readily enjoy their sport, or make a few dollars more.
And these same powerful modern day business organizations and sport hunting lobbyists also contribute vast amounts of money to our Congressmen – - so much so that most of our ‘leaders’ routinely ‘look the other way’ today concerning blatant violations of federal law.
And yet, hardly anyone in America is complaining, as so many of us did, way back in 1972, when aerial hunting was finally banned by federal law.
It took a vast public outcry to stop it then; and it will surely take another one now.
But where will we find enough concerned American citizens to finally shout, ‘Stop The Bloody Murder – and Stop It Right Now – If You Want My Vote Come Election Day?’
There really don’t seem to be very many American citizens left today who still give a damn anymore about anything that’s happening in our nation.
Thousands of our wild bison have already been slaughtered; our national park system is being bludgeoned and torn apart; and our once treasured wild horses will soon be slaughtered, too.
And all I hear these days is a vast nation - Of Silence.

Ed the public outcry has to be overwhelming, but it needs to focus it's attention on the issue, stark messages in the public forum similar to what Peta is using seems to rally enaugh enticement to participate, to bad that one has to resort that sort of shock therapy to have impact, as a last word ,I would simply say, we don't need wildlife control but human.
