And Why I Tell People To Adopt, Not To Shop, For Their Next Pet.

As A Life Long Dog Lover and A Person Who Rescues Abandoned, Starving,
Homeless Dogs From The Mean City Streets of America, Here Is My Response:

Puppy Mills

Puppy Mills are large, inhumane, dog breeding facilities all across America whose sole focus is profit. There is little or no concern for the health and welfare of their animals. Puppies are born with severe health, behavioral, and socialization issues. Breeding dogs are neglected, starved, and left sick and injured in tiny, cramped cages without medical care or relief from overwhelming pain.

The breeding dogs (both male and female) in Puppy Mills are neglected and denied veterinary care. They suffer with painful untreated injuries and illnesses, they suffer broken jaws and rotted teeth making it impossible to even keep their tongues in their mouths, let alone eat. These dogs are forced to live in tiny overcrowded cages or enclosures, with wire bottoms, never having a solid surface to rest on. They never feel the soft tickle of grass on their toes, or the gentle touch of a human being. They also endure bitter cold conditions in the wintertime, and stifling heat in the summer.

Female ‘breeding bitches’ in Puppy Mills are bred as frequently as possible, and the puppies are taken away from their mothers prematurely, resulting in the proliferation of disease, genetic defects, and lack of socialization.

It is now estimated that nearly 3 million Puppy Mill puppies are sold each year in the United States. Documented Puppy Mill conditions include over-breeding, in-breeding, minimal veterinary care, poor food and shelter, crowded cages, and lack of socialization.

Dogs kept for breeding in Puppy Mills suffer for years in continual confinement. They are bred as often as possible, and then destroyed or discarded in both rural and urban areas all across America once they can no longer produce enough puppies.

Pet Stores and Internet Sellers often use attractive websites to hide the truth about these Puppy Mill dogs, and to dupe consumers into believing that they are dealing with a small, reputable breeder. And when someone complains that the puppy they have purchased from them is ill, these Pet Stores and Internet Sellers deny any and all responsibility.

Puppy Mills are contributing to the vast pet overpopulation problem in our nation today, and our politicians refuse to shut them down, no matter how many petitions are signed or how many protests are made.

Backyard Breeders

Backyard Breeding is now also on the rise across our vast nation, and it is also now contributing to our massive pet overpopulation problem today.

Many of these backyard breeding operations are smaller versions of Puppy Mills; they now operate in just about every state in our country; and many of them treat their breeding dogs just as atrociously as the large Puppy Mills do.

Like Puppy Mill dogs, many backyard breeder dogs are also forced to endure all types of inclement weather in someone’s backyard. And when one of their ‘breeder bitches’ or ‘studs’ can no longer produce enough puppies to turn a profit, they will often dump them on the streets to fend for themselves.

Many of the starving, homeless, gravely ill dogs that we rescue from the mean city streets of America today are abandoned backyard breeder dogs. And most of them are in horrendous condition.

And because of our horrendous pet overpopulation problem today, millions and millions of unwanted, unloved, relinquished and abandoned dogs and cats are now being euthanized in America's animal shelters, each and every year.
