relationship matters!!!!
people have come with various theories on relationships....some say its better for the man to be married at the age of 28 and above and for the woman they say 21 and above.....others have said that courtship should last for years before marriage in order to be acquainted with the partner you are going to spend the rest of your life with. well i am not here to rule out all these theories though.....just as Jesus Christ said He did not appear to abolish the law that was already on ground but to polish it and make amendments to it......i made observations to quite some biblical characters with respect to courtship and marriage.......and God ministered these things to me and i know they'd be helpful to us all too........take a good look at Adam - God made a woman from his bones and brought her to him, and immediately she was his wife. no courtship. no acquaintance. but note that there was a conviction. Genesis 2:23: The man said, "finally! bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh. i name her woman, for she was made from man." come down to Isaac, he was forty years, he had lost his mother Sarah. but Abraham his father sent for a wife for his son based on Godly directives. and what was the reward? Isaac got the best of women for a wife......What are the lessons here? Isaac was forty years old at that time. Patience is a virtue that pays off. he wasn't in a rush to get married.....he also submitted to counsel from his father. The world is upside down today. Gone are the days when parents decided who their children marry. The reader of this post might say that is "Old school" as they term it. but come to think of it, marriages that had parental control or directives lasted than the ones that didn't. I learned something from my previously, now failed relationship. my mother had warned that the lady in question wasn't for me. when she eventually broke up, after breaking my heart, i painfully realised she was right - she wasn't meant for me. A lot of we youths are beclouded by sentiments when it comes to relationships. we say, "she'll change when we get married." We say "I'll change her when we get married." I put it to you, that, that is the error of the highest order. Back to Isaac's marital experience, when he saw Rebecca, he had the same feeling Adam had when he saw Eve - that conviction. Age isn't a barrier or determinant to love or marriage. Isaac was forty and from the description giving about Rebecca, she was way younger than Isaac. Yet they lived in harmony. Observe Joseph well, when Pharaoh gave him his daughter's hand in marriage to him.......it was instant......they had never knew each other prior that moment. it was a few hours courtship, and they had a marital bliss. So it's not how long your courtship goes that will determine how well your marriage will turn out. we have 8year courtships or more that never had a marriage that lasted six months. And there are six-month courtships that led to marriages where golden jubilees were celebrated. A final look at Jacob's experience gives us another view. He had to serve seven years for someone whom he loved and who loved him back. Despite even been tricked, he still served another seven years before he finally got the woman of his dreams. Does that mean that in fourteen years Rachael didn't have any other suitors - you can't rule that out. She was beautiful, definitely she must have had a couple of them - yet she held on for that one man that made the difference......what can you learn here? true love waits and endures. Its not as if there were no other beautiful ladies, but only Rachael made the difference. Another lesson from Jacob's story: no matter how long, no matter how wrong. Whoever is meant for you will remain for you.
From the observations above we can derive some conclusion:
(1) Your marriage isn't a determinant of the length of your courtship.
(2) The men and women involved where all Godly. Are you a true Christian? Do you have a personal relationship as a man or woman? Your answers to this questions will determine if you'd get the right partner for you.
(3) The men were all hardworking and financially stable. Abraham was wealthy and hardworking when he married Sarah. Read Genesis 24:35. Isaac also sowed in the land and he reaped a hundred fold of all he sowed. he wasn't idle. As a man you must be diligent and wealthy. you must be stable financially, spiritually, emotionally before you think of a relationship or marriage.....and this attributes take time to build. And that answers your question as to why it takes long for some to get their partner and short time for the others.
(4) The women were also occupied and hardworking. Here comes the bitter truth. Ladies don't have to depend on the man for all their financial obligations. Rebecca was a sheperdess. She took care of her father's flock. That was the only she'd have known how to water camels. Eve was also a supporting wife and mother for her husband too and so was Rachael...so i don't know where the idea of full time housewives generated from? You must work and support your husband. Take it or leave it. Don't just take! Take!! and Take!! GIVE ALSO!!!!.
Finally, just as the men were financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually stable so also were the women......so Ladies don't leave it all to the guys to take care of you..........you are meant to take care of each other.
SO!! GO OUT THERE AND HAVE THE MAN OR WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS....AND DON'T FORGET THE CONVICTION IN YOUR SPIRIT.....GOOD THINGS ALSO DON'T COME IN GOOD PACKAGES TOO.......BE DISCERNING!!!
