Kia Heavey's review of Radical Action: A Colt Kelley Thriller.

Now here's an action-packed thriller. I wish someone would make a movie of this book. I really enjoyed the premise, something that's rarely addressed (but should be). Basically, no one thinks it's a good idea to destroy our home, the earth. Everyone breathes the same air, drinks the same water, enjoys natural beauty, and understands that conservation is the best way to proceed. But some people get carried away with their environmentalism (emphasis on "mental") and become intolerant of anyone who isn't as zealous as they are. In the most extreme cases, this zealotry becomes eco-terrorism.

E-Force is a dangerous and destructive band of eco-terrorists. E-Force has appointed itself judge, jury and executioner of the AmeResort corporation, a company that develops outdoor-themed vacation destinations. AmeResort conscientiously proceeds in a conservational manner, being a good steward of the natural beauty and recreation that its clients come to enjoy while also working to preserve open land and wildlife. But this balanced approach isn't good enough for hardcore environmentalists. While E-Force wages an economically devastating war of property damage and violence on AmeResort, they are aided by an unscrupulous news anchorwoman who promotes their agenda while defaming the victim. Not surprisingly, she is rewarded for her PR campaign by the largest media network in the world.

Trapped in the tentacles of these deadly machinations are several good, decent people who are horrified by the unfairness of what is transpiring. One of them, Colt, is a young man who works for an environmental protection organization but who can still tell when advocacy veers off into criminality. Another young man, Luke, is a journalist in the original sense of the word and his investigative prowess exposes deadly secrets. Who is the brains behind E-Force? Where does E-Force get their funding? What is the nature of their relationship to the corrupt media that promotes them? As more and more secrets are exposed, a conspiracy beyond anything Colt or Luke could have imagined begins to take form. Radical Action is a nice long read and Kellogg keeps up the pace throughout. This story has many threads and moving parts that all come together in a breathtaking conclusion. I especially enjoyed the satisfying ending and exposure of the poisonous ideology which destroyed so many young lives. All in all, Radical Action is full of thrills, corruption, conspiracy, and all that good stuff.
