Fourth, and second to last, in my polarity notes is the 'inner vs. outer' duality. This is the idea that there is an 'inner world' and an 'outer world'. In psychological parlance this is sometimes referred to as 'introversion' and 'extroversion'. People who are 'introverted' gain energy from being alone, while those who are 'extroverted' get energy from being in the world with others.
I don't dispute that people hold their energy differently and that each person finds their inner/outer existence draining/energizing, but I do believe that this duality is more a perception of the mind than it is physical reality.
As I have discussed in previous notes everything is completely interconnected, which makes the notion of separation a delusion generated by the dualistic mind. Below the level of the atom there are no boundaries...the world is a shimmering energy field that is vibrating at various frequencies depending on the form of the object. A table vibrates at a slightly different frequency than living being, and light vibrates differently than all physical objects. The difference in vibration creates the illusion that things are separated...but in reality everything is connected at a base level.
This may seem esoteric to you, but it is not. Your 'inner world' is tightly connected to the 'outer world'. Your thoughts vibrate and emanate outward...and so even in your solace you are interacting with the world. Your subconscious mind (which is 95% of your mental processing) is constantly evaluating and interacting with the world, even when you think you are just sitting quietly. For some very sensitive people being 'in the world' is overwhelming because they are aware of so much information streaming toward them that they need to step back into themselves in order to manage their own energy. Others are less sensitive and able to be in the world with a centered excitement because they have a very strong sense of their energetic boundaries.
In being alone you are connected to the world. In being with others you are also connected with the world. There is no 'inner' or 'outer', just states of mind that create porosity or impermeability of your being. You can create silence and peace in a crowd, AND create connection and fullness while alone. Until now you have acted habitually, depending on your physical makeup, childhood experiences and emotional state. Moving forward you can open yourself to the possibility of choice. You can choose how to manage your own energy and 'be' in the world.
Become aware of your notions around 'aloneness' and 'social-ness'. How do you manage your energy? Can you see your interconnectedness while alone, and experience peace while in a crowd? Inner and outer are the same thing, and when you experience this you can exist in any physical space with both energy and peace!
