After a TIA and latest birthday, I feel my brain is being blown away, bit by bit and I'm determined to do something about it.
My Brain Blowing Away?
Facing the vicissitudes of aging ain’t a piece of cake, but I’ve always managed to tap on my sharp brain and remind myself that endorphins are the way best to recalibrate and get me going happy. It’s worked for me forever – and, thankfully, it still does… to a point. Not that I’ll ever stop moving, pray God!
I’ve always been a jock whose passion has been and still is, exercise. My body loves to move, what can I say but “lucky me?” As I’ve hit 80 and still rocking it the best I can, I’ve humbled, of course, with the daily reminder of the myriad body parts that remind me they’ve been overused and need more attention and TLC. So many body parts!
And, so I do my best to assuage their needs and stretch, move, kiss, apply gels, patches, pray so more and keep on moving. It seems to work…
But the brain… Ah, the brain!
A recent TIA, although “no brain damage” (after much testing), has humbled me because my brain has changed and I don’t like it!
Aside from my memory being impacted (my ever-pride-and-joy; my “elephant’s memory”) my personality is changing: I’m becoming a bitch on wheels: impatient, inflexible and judgmental. That’s not me!
No angel, I’ve always strived to be a decent human being, if a tad impatient, but this is different. This person is just not me. I have to consciously pause, breathe and remind myself its chemistry impacting my noodle and twice Covid and its damn chemistry shots and boosters have not helped my brain – something I noticed right away. So becoming more and more, I’ve decided to come up with a plan and reprogram, recalibrate my brain just the way I do so with my physical body parts!
Getting back to writing daily seems like a very good beginning. It’s a journal of sorts. It’s cathartic. It’s discipline – which I love because it keeps me grounded. It gives me purpose; it’s a good thing.
One more thing to add to my list. For now, this is a good start.
