Several years ago I started a mastermind group of 10 other professional speakers and trainers. We have met quarterly somewhere in the US for the past 7 years. The purpose of the group is to help each other grow professionally and personally. I have been speaking full time for over thirty years and I can tell you that this group has done more for my career and life than any other activity, initiative or organization I have ever belonged to or participated in.

Have you ever been to a writers conference, I mean a really great writers conference and come away with tremendous new insight and ideas that you couldn’t wait to put into practice? Have you ever attended a writers workshop that just ‘wowed’ you with practical and useful information that could help you reach the next level in your writing and publishing efforts?

Well, from my experience this is the major objective of a mastermind group - to help each member improve and excel in those areas where it is important to them whether business, creative, personal etc.

Now to the point.

My speaking mastermind group has been so successful that I have decided to start a writing mastermind group.

1) The group will be limited to 11 people.

2) The purpose of the group, is to share ideas, resources, lessons, experiences and knowledge.

3) Initially we will meet three times a year for a full day.

4) There will be no dues the first year, but each person will share in the cost of any meeting expenses. We will take this item one year at a time.

5) Each member is responsible for their own travel expenses.

6) If you miss more than two meetings for anything other than extreme personal reasons you will be asked to leave the group.

7) The first year, the meetings will rotate around the country and will be held in proximity to the greatest number of members.

8) The meeting agendas will cover any and all areas in the writer’s life from the creation of the first word on paper to their royalty check for their one millionth book sold. Each month the meeting agenda focus may vary depending on the needs or desires of the group.

9) Each meeting will be organized and facilitated by a different member and this process will rotate. (This will take about an hour of your total time.)

10) In the event more than 11 people are interested initially, at the first meeting all will be welcome and we will discuss membership criteria and requirements, meeting schedules and format and agendas.

11) Initial criteria for membership is that you have some published work for which you have received royalties, fees or some revenue - a poem, book, anthology, article. Plus your goal must be to become a better and more successful author or writer.

12) Once the final group participants have been decided upon we will then, as a group, decide on the dates and locations for the first years meetings.

13) My only purpose with the group is to get it started and keep it organized, alive, meaningful and valuable experience for everyone. Other than that I am just one of the 11. If at some point we decide to have a dues structure, as we did with Master Speakers International, my speaking mastermind group, I will handle the income and meeting expenses out of this revenue.
