What does a kid do when two aliens from RAK end up at his house on Christmas Eve? He has loads of fun and lots of adventures.
Young Ben Hawkins befriends two aliens named Glip and Ha, and invites them into his home for dinner. From this point on Ben is whirled into humorous alien dialogue and adventure. Readers laugh out loud as the threesome end up on the set of Squint Deadwood, the famous western actor, and Ha and Glip accidentally bury California under ice and snow. Inventor Uncle Stu appears with even more knee slapping humor and he joins the adventures. By the time readers reach the end where Glip and Ha plan to spacehike home to face disciplinary action, into the scene floats a huge pink bubble. When the beautiful girl steps out, Glip and Ha discover, “There’s no place like RAK, there’s no place like RAK,” and readers learn that Glip and Ha are, “as real as Quasar, and a black hole, and a meteor shower, and a comet.”
The individual chapters in The Real Adventures of Glip and Ha are like picture books. Older children can read independently, but younger children will enjoy having parents or teachers read to them. Adults can’t help but giggle at the humor specifically aimed at the older audience. I thoroughly enjoyed stepping into a delightful, funny alien world, and I rate this book high on entertainment.
