Christmas Time in Georgia

After spending so many years overseas, coming back to Georgia was exciting to say the least. Having enjoyed the summer and the beaches, slowly fall and winter drew closer. After all the Halloween excitement, which was worth the while, finally, finally it is here, the season we have been looking forward too for so long, Christmas Time!

Before we went overseas we had always enjoyed the wonderful decorations people put up on their houses, in their yards and behind their windows. We would spend hours driving around the wintry streets, admiring the spirit that led so many to jump into decorating as much as possible.

There was the ‘House of Lights’ in Savannah, a house so decorated with light chains that it appeared to be nothing but a pulsing colorful display of lights.

Then there was (my personal favorite) the ‘Winter Wonder Land’. It very seldom snows in Georgia, but at this house people had forced winter to stay with all their might. White lights, snow stars, silver garlands and tons of artificial snow, angles dressed in white and reindeers covered in snow gave you the impression to be in the middle of the North Pole.

Of course there were many houses with Santa and the reindeer sleigh on their roofs, in their yards and lit up candy canes, shrubs and trees.

While we stayed in Europe, decorating picked up during the Holidays, but never to the extent you can find it in the States.

So, now it was time to get out and search for the lights!

To our big surprise times have changed. Only few houses had a little decoration displayed. We traveled North and South, East and West until, finally we found the most beautiful decorated houses, right here in our neighborhood!

The area around Fort Stewart has a few houses that were so spectacular that we could not refuse the urge to share the view with you!
