Free, unbridled, enterprise has always taken the cream from the land and left a lot of trash to be cleaned up. View a video of one community's action that helps us all.
I spent seven years in West Virginia and witnessed, firsthand, from both the ground and the air, from frequent flyovers, how “free enterprise” had raped the state over and over with no end, now reaching the state of “mountain topping” to provide coal so that the rest of us can have cheap electricity. My upstairs neighbors in Huntington were Scientologists. I nice young couple whose job, working for Princess Coal Company, was to convince farmers that stripping their farms for coal would make them rich. The consequences that came after were not discussed. For three years, I viewed the beautiful blue-green Cheat Lake from my cottage across from Cheat Lake Country Club, now a very high rent district. The color of the lake is caused by acidity from runoff from mines in the hills behind that have been long sealed off, but continue to leak. The lake is so acid that only bullheads live in it.

When I was at the cottage, I had to clean my front porch every week for the greasy coal ash dust that accumulated on it and made it hard to use the porch.
