Season of Light
As I see it my dear children, tis the season of Light.
“And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; And God separated the light from the darkness.” Genesis 1:3-4 (Amp)
Light is good. As it interacts with other objects, it reveals truth. Darkness is the absence of light and it obscures truth. So darkness or night is preferred by those who are up to no-good. They fear light and are offended by the truth.
The Old Testament tells of the people of Israel and their relationship with God. It explains how God separates light from darkness and deals with those who prefer darkness. “He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him!” Daniel 2:22 The Old Testament sets out His Law for how light operates. It quotes God’s Prophets as they tell how He will send one to make a way for humans to receive light and truth and to live in it forever.
The New Testament is the story of Jesus. He is the way the Prophets foretold. “Because of and through the heart of tender mercy and loving-kindness of our God, a Light from on high will dawn upon us and visit [us] to shine upon and give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct and guide our feet in a straight line into the way of peace.” Luke 1:78-79 “For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah).” II Corinthians 4:6 He is the light of the world and gives us a new reconciled relationship to God which is the solution to darkness.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God's] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (Amp) You choosers of light and life are His kingdom both now and forever. Revelation, relates that we who choose life are [God’s] own kingdom people of the eternal city of perpetual day. We are now growing more like Him as we go to be eternally with the Lamb who is the light and serves to illuminate all truth forever.
It is good news that God gives all humans free choice. They can choose light or dark, life or death, blessing or curses. Those who choose darkness are not compelled to be in the light. They can stay in outer darkness.
The best news is that He personally guides and empowers those who choose light to live it eternally as “sons of God.” Romans 8:14 His grace is sufficient.
