Remember the tale? The Russian ran and ran and ran to own all that land he could cover then, alas, he dropped you know what--dead. Sad, isn't it?

Running from Reality vs. Acceptance

I’d like to talk about reality mainly in a positive sense. It is easy to refer to reality in a negative sense, though, and this ease merits a mention. An example of trying to portray reality negatively is the case of, say, a waiter who feels she or he is doing a job that is “inferior.” There is that conviction, perhaps faint, that she or he has qualities, talents, and the intelligence that merits her/him something better, but as she/he knows that she/he is no Einstein, nor a Madame Curie, why bother so much(with the social climbing)? Of course, it is a reality that she or he is doing a job that is many rungs below, say, that of a CEO. Additionally, it is a reality that she or he(and all of us, actually) would’ve benefitted greatly by having received, at birth, more gray matter. Still, it is noble to refuse to allow these two negative realities to block one’s growth, to pose as excuses for not trying to improve oneself. Also, it is noble and a reality to realize that if there is a particular job in existence, it is because that job or position is needed. Therefore, a degree of merit is everywhere.

Positive reality also exists. We often try to ignore it. I am amazed at how many “great pretenders” I meet—people who live and believe lies, whether their own or others’. When I was growing up, it was common to hear “if anything ever happens to so-and-so,” or “if so-and-so were to die,” just to cite two clauses. Being tuned to positive reality requires us to forget the ifs. Something IS going to happen to so-and-so. So-and-so IS one day going to die(as we know the term). The full acceptance of these realities is not only probably better, but normal(as in the Divine Plan). We are told in Eccleasiastes that “there is a season, and a time for every matter...a time to die.” We are told to “remember” our “Creator in the days of” our “youth...” In other words, we should enjoy life abundantly, should not fail to dance and to laugh when there is an opportunity, but, no less important, we should not lose sight of the end, of the fact(reality) that there IS an end(as concerns this planet, we presume). It is natural; “programed,” we might say, therefore inevitable. Running(from reality) changes it not. Thanks for reading.
