Yesterday....

I was at the Base Exchange on an airbase near me. In line in front of me was a lady. Obviously a flight officer because he wore the rank of Major on her shoulders, and had on a flight suit with pilot's wings, and squadron patches.

I offhandedly mentioned to her that I had gotten an e-mail with a picture of an all female flight crew on a C-130 transport and that I thought it was cool.
She said, in kind of a sarcastic tone, "Yeah, there are a lot of all female flight crews nowadays."

But I think the thing that just pushed her over the edge was when I mentioned the caption under the picture, which said,

"We now call this area of the airplane the Flight Deck, and no longer the, Cockpit."

Everyone around that heard the comment cracked up, except for the Major.
Instead of a chuckle, I got a very nasty look, and she walked away after checking out without a word.

Of course, I had to say, "Have a nice day Major," to which I got another sneer.
I turned to my buddy and said, "I don't think she liked that one very much." He laughed again and said, "Ya think?"

Oh well, as the saying goes, "If you can't take a joke......"

Sounds to me like the major is suffering from self inflicted combat fatigue. She better get a sense of humor of it will do her in.

I have to attend loads of seminars at work on male-female work environments and sexual harassment, so I hope I can tell that joke later.

From a woman's point of view, I can see why she was upset. She worked hard to get to that position, and feels that she still has an uphill fight.

On the otherhand, she's one of the reasons that it's so hard for many of us. NO sense of humor.
