The cold hearted truth of the matter is that we the people are responsible for our own fate. We did this to our once great nation and we can fix it just as easily without the help of those idiots in Washington who just keep putting more unearned money into the pockets of the fat cats who helped to create this sorry mess we're in.
Right now, I'd like to make a challenge to every US citizen here in The Author's Den. And I don't want to hear that it's not possible. You want to put our nation back to work? You want the finer things in life that we used to enjoy? Money for food and to pay bills and maybe even a little nest egg back in the bank?
The solution is so simplistic it is stupid.
SIMPLE STUPID!
BUY AMERICAN! Plain and simple.
Yes, my TVs may be old but they were made here in the USA. My car and my truck were too and so are all the clothes and shoes that my family and I wear. Dump the Subarus, Kias, Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans and stop buying from China and Japan. Most of the money that they make on the cars that they build here is sent back to their own countries for crying out loud. Plus, the parts for those cars are still imported. Good Lord; let's open our eyes people!
You want to fix what's wrong with America? That's it my friend in a nut shell;
simply BUY AMERICAN.
But where we're no longer under the protection of God; as in GOD BLESS AMERICA; that's not possible now, is it?
No, and you know why? Because most of us here now live by the M & M rule. Me & me; what can I do for me?
We the people are free and we should have the freedom to buy what we want from where ever we want; I couldn't agree with that more.
But every other country in the world that is now financially stable or close to it, has their own manufacturing facilities that far outweigh ours and practices protectionism; and so should we.
Yes, you want to buy a Toyota or a Sony TV? By all means go ahead. But then, like Japan, we the people should pay for the privilage of putting our own people out of work and pay a double or triple sales tax or import tax for that imported product. I am so sick and tired of all the bull when the answer is so, so very simple.
Our problem is that we've become greedy, egotistical, selfish and lazy. Time we started banging our own heads together and smartened up.
Anyone that buys anything imported should not be complaining one bit. We are our own worst enemy.

You nailed it on the head. South Korea did this and boomed economically, the citizens followed out of love for nation, and it worked. This is not only practical, it is necessary.
(Note: Australia garments industry has gone abroad for cheaper labor, resulting in job losses by the thousands.)
