This is an insight to the plight of mankind especiallly Africa and the MDG measures on how to provide a lasting solution

I am presently doing my National Youth Service in Nigeria like what is obtained in America after one is through with college and you fight in the US Military before making up your mind on what next step you plan to take. Service to my father land has been a great eye opener for me most especially when I received training as a Millennium Development Goals (MDG) facilitator.
The revelations were an addendum to what is often time relayed on international TV stations like CNN and BBC. Stories of Africa fraught with decomposing bodies as a result of war, underdevelopment steamed from continuous terrible leadership, mismanagement of infrastructure and resources, gender discrimination and marginalization, communal clashes and the endangerment of the eco-system which is a general problem through out the world – talking about the Katrina’s of the USA, the tsunami of Asia and the desert and flood encroachment in my country Nigeria.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight goals that all 191 United Nations member states have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015. These countries have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the worlds poorest.

According to the MDG magazine in baobabconnections.org “The world has made significant progress in achieving many of the goals. Between 1990 and 2002 average overall incomes increased by approximately 21 percent. The number of people in extreme poverty declined by an estimated 130 million 1. Child mortality rates fell from 103 deaths per 1,000 live births a year to 88. Life expectancy rose from 63 years to nearly 65 years. An additional 8 percent of the developing world's people received access to water. And an additional 15 percent acquired access to improved sanitation services.

But progress has been far from uniform across the world-or across the goals. There are huge disparities across and within countries. Within countries, poverty is greatest for rural areas, though urban poverty is also extensive, growing, and underreported by traditional indicators.

Sub-Saharan Africa is the epicenter of crisis, with continuing food insecurity, a rise of extreme poverty, stunningly high child and maternal mortality, and large numbers of people living in slums, and a widespread shortfall for most of the MDGs …”
This is only an awareness campaign to the threat faced by mankind in this part of the globe, I pray our case will not be like that of the dinosaurs of time past who have gone into extinction due to challenges bigger than that breed of specie.
