I can thank my life to this hero. I pray history will vindicate Hungarian Jews and resolve this mystery.

For Thanksgiving my dad who passed away in 2005 would want us to remember Raoul Wallenberg. In the darkest days of WWII a Swedish diplomat named Raoul Wallenberg with backing from the United States saved thousands and thousands of Jews in Budapest, Hungary. Unlike other heroes he was forced to spend most of his life in the Soviet gulag and nobody knows why the Stalinists wouldn't set him free. He was captured in 1944 never to be heard from again. My dad Andor Szentivanyi knew him personally and without Wallenberg's safe house might also have died at Auschwitz just like his parents and just like most of mom's family. The Russians finally owned up to the massacre in the Katyn forest so I don't understand why they wont open up the Wallenberg file. Wallenberg's parents committed suicide purely because they agonized decades and decades about his disappearance. Last but not least a historian named Attila Lajos claims Wallenberg was betrayed by an ambassador of Hungarian Jewish ancestry. If the gangsters in the Kremlin would finally release the Wallenberg file maybe Hungarian Jews as a group could be acquitted but so far not even history has been kind to Hungarian Jews.
