"They look just like $ signs."
Said an Alaskan crabber on "The Deadliest Catch"

I live in Tampa where buffets are cheap and most owners are generous. This is especially true about China Garden on Dale Mabry Highway where an all you can eat including snow crab goes for under eleven dollars.
According to several media reports, Red Lobster fired its president after their "All You Can Eat" lost money. I would be overjoyed if my voracious appetite could bankrupt a greedy chain like Red Lobster but I dont believe the press. That "All You Can Eat" was twenty dollars and for that much $ they should have made money. The St. Petersburg Times wrote that some Red Lobsters even went as high as 25$ and still couldnt break even.
On the other hand, there is circumstantial evidence that Red Lobster really did take a beating. For one thing, the "All You Can Eat Snow Crab" special has been conspicuouly absent since the alledged downpour. For another thing, I interviewed a manager at Miller's Ale House and he gave me a real gem.
Only one Miller's Ale House in the Jacksonville area offers "All You Can Eat Snowcrab" and they never made one cent on it. Its there just to keep the regulars happy.
If Red Lobsters ex-President did loose her job because of the buffet, I still cant take credit because I would never spend that much on a buffet.
I stay under fifteen $ for an all you can eat buffet. I am super cheap! Remember the China Garden I mentioned earlier is under eleven dollars.
I love getting my $ worth. I dont feel guilty about being a big eater. I also dont feel bad about the crab's dieing for my pleasure.
I feel bad because people die. More people die crabbing in Alaska than any other job in The United States.
Its so horrible that The Discovery Channel created a whole program "The Deadliest Catch" to this one profession.
They say in the program, "Did you ever feel the whole world is against you? For Alaskan crabbers, it is."
Thats one of the coolest promos I ever heard.
A close second is "We follow the people who follow the money."

It sounds good but its misleading. The amount of money slightly over a thousand a day is nothing relative to getting killed and the average for greenhorns is nowhere close to a grand.
They play "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi but this is also misleading since the crab has to arrive alive or else the crabbers dont get paid. Snow crab and king crab are so salty mostly because they keep it in water while on ship.
While the discovery channel plys this creepy, misleading, music they treat the viewer to some really frightening visuals: ghost ships emptied by fire or malfunction and graveyards. And there are plenty of graveyards.
Exausted and freezing crabbers have to lug around 800 pound traps and if one falls overboard only seconds seperates him from them. When I say them, I mean famished dollar signs that subsist on whatever crap is at the bottom of the ocean. Some people call them insects of the sea and just like insects they descended from arthropods.
There are Russian and Canadian snow crabs but most snow crab originates from this tiny bit of Pacific ocean near southern Alaska.
This in contrast to stone crab or blue crab or lobster that doesnt average one fatality per week of season.
One afterthought: Stay the hell away from Russian snow crab. Its hard to open and tastes like waste water from a Siberian detention camp!
